Happy December, my Twelve Months of Bliss seekers 🙂 Are you ready for this month’s challenge?!
December 2015: Pay Bliss Forward
“The service we render to others is really the rent we pay for our room on this earth. The purpose of this world is not ‘to have and to hold’ but ‘to give and to serve’.” -Sir Wilfred T. Grinfell
Challenge: This holiday season, consider paying “it” forward: BLISS. Examples of this: volunteering for an afternoon at a food drive, paying for the person behind you at the drive-thru, shoveling your neighbor’s driveway, baking cookies with someone who might otherwise be alone this season, leave an extra big tip for your server, spend a morning at your local animal shelter loving on some pups, or as simple as opening and holding doors for others.
How often: At least once this month, but I’d like to encourage you to pay it forward daily, in some way.
What you will need: A present mind and open eyes! Be aware, look around you – I guarantee there are a million ways to pay it forward throughout each and every day.
Why?: We all know how this time of year can easily distract us with things we must get done ultimately for ourselves. Shopping, traveling, a mile long to-do list, etc. etc. etc. Let’s take a pause and do something nice for someone else – not because we hope to get something in return but because it’s important to serve others.
[For those of you keeping a 12MofBliss journal: How did ‘paying it forward’ change this month for you? Was there ever a comfort zone you felt you had to step out of during this challenge? Did you feel it was easier to step outside of it when the focus was on others and not yourself? What did you do more of this month: talk/converse or listen? Was there an activity you took part in for this challenge that you might continue this next year?]
December’s linkup: This month’s linkup will take place at Ember Grey on Wednesday, December 30. This linkup will serve as a place for all of us to share our thoughts and reflections on this particular challenge.
