Adventure: 2015. grateful heart monday

Adventure Rocks. (a Grateful Heart)

January 12, 2015

Friends of ours gave us a really beautiful glass bowl as a wedding gift and it’s quickly become one of my favorite pieces to decorate with. I remember when I opened the gift, squealing with approval, and then wondering what the heck I was supposed to do with it. I ended up buying cool rocks at Michaels (these days you gotta pay for rocks #TheseAreTheDaysOfOurLives) and put them in the glass bowl, and then using it as a center piece on our dining room table.

When Christian and I each chose our word at the beginning of 2014, the question was where we would put our words – wanting to have them written down in a place we’d see them daily. I grabbed two of the rocks from the bowl, we wrote each of our words down on them, and then kept the rocks at our desks. Then, on NYE 2014, we recapped what we’d learned from our words and put the rocks back into the bowl. I loved the idea of one day having a pretty bowl full of pretty rocks, containing our yearly words that also held life lessons with so much meaning.
My word for 2014 was Praise. I learned SO, so much about the word and meaning of Praise last year, wow, and was gifted so many things to give praise for.

2014 Highlights
The start of Grateful Heart Monday, beginning each week with a grateful heart, giving praise
I left my corporate job to write and blog full time = a definite dream of mine
I was reminded of just how loved I am by my family and friends when my sweet husband threw me a surprise 30th birthday party (praise for all of the love in my life!)
Christian and I received confirmation that Nashville would be our next adventure together

(And truly, many other things in which I gave praise for.) When I think back on 2014, Praise most definitely describes it and for that I am so grateful.

When it came time to choose my word for 2015, I’d already thought of two possible words for this new year, but there was another word that kept popping up.

Each time this word would come up (and I’m talking about random times: seeing it printed on the side of a building, online, even in one of my dreams), I thought to myself- that cannot be the word God wants me to study this year. Adventure sounds so selfish, and fun. (haha) So I continued to pray on it, and that word continued to pop up. It hit me one morning that perhaps God feels I’m worthy of a grand adventure. And that maybe God’s idea of adventure for my life is different (and far better) than the one I’ve dreamed up. And so, it was decided. Adventure would be my word for 2015. That’s really all I can say about it right now, as I have no idea what this word will mean in my life this next year, but I’m excited, I am ready, I am willing. I am grateful πŸ™‚

  • Ok…did I miss something the last few times I have been here? New design? Love it! As for your word…perfect. Adventure can mean so many things and you certainly are embarking on a new one in Nashville. As your blog grows too and you consider the options you and I have discussed, well, that too is an adventure. Great choice. So excited to follow along and see where this year takes you!

What a great word! Looking forward to following along with your adventures!

  • Girlfriend you are already on a roll with that word! God has blessed you tremendously and I cannot wait to see what else He has in store for you this year πŸ™‚

  • I love your rocks, that is such a great idea. Five, ten years down the road you'll be able to just pick one up and all the memories will come back. Love it.

  • This is a good word! I can't wait to read all about your adventures this year.

  • For starters I love the new Grateful graphic! Thia is my first year learning about the one-word a year. A friend of mine was helping me through a problem and she brought this up and now I see it everywhere. I absolutely love the idea. It's nice to have one focus throughout the year. Adventure sounds like such a great word! I can't wait to see where it takes you.

  • What a cool idea. I do something similar, kind of. Mine is a gratitude rock (ala The Secret). I keep it nearby and every time I see it or touch it I think about 3 things I am grateful for. It keeps me in the right mind frame as often as possible.

Go you! Adventure is one of my most favorite words. I can't wait to see where it takes you.

I love this!!! What a perfect idea. Not only that, but this word is so great for you. You are already totally and completely in the midst of your "adventure". I will continue to pray that things go as smoothly as possible, and that you enjoy and embark on your word as much as possible <3 xoxo

I love the idea of writing your words on the rocks!! Amazing!! And, I am still praying about my word for 2015. Happy Monday, friend! xo

  • I really like the idea of wiring your words on the rocks. I imagine that bowl being filled in some time with lessons you can share with others about each one…
I tried doing the word for the year last year but i didn't fully embrace it… So i didn't do it this year. You have me reconsidering it… I just need to pay on it and make my word visible….

  • I LOVE the rocks. So funny that I chose the rocks image this morning for my Grateful Heart post. Your word is perfect. This new start in Nashville will truly be an Adventure for you and X and I can't wait to see what happens for you both!

P.S. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your new logo! #purpleismyfav

  • A fantastic word – and how awesome to write the words on rocks and have them as mementos forever! πŸ™‚ I can't wait to hear how it plays out in your life this year – I bet God's definition of adventure is AWESOME!!! XO
(PS – love the new header logo & grateful button!! Very chic font!)

  • I like that! Very cool. Way back when Omar and I had just started dating, and he was a sheltered city boy with no idea of the big wide world (:P) we dubbed ADVENTURE as the official word of our relationship. Even our wedding went along with that theme!

  • I love your word for 2015! I can't wait to see what this year brings for you. πŸ™‚

  • Thanks, lady! πŸ™‚

  • I feel it, Kel, I do!!! πŸ™‚ So excited!

  • Yes!! πŸ™‚ That's my hope for my "bowl of rocks" haha. It's always interesting trying to explain it to someone.

  • Thanks, friend πŸ™‚ xo

  • Thank you!! I had a creative burst last night and just thought, I'm DOIN this. I'm SO glad you're doing the word thing! It really is so encouraging, especially if you keep it close to where you work.

  • I love that, V. I'm excited to see where the adventures of 2015 take me too πŸ™‚

  • Thank you!! πŸ™‚ This makes me smile, and I appreciate your prayers so, so much. XO!

  • I prayed for quite awhile on mine… a few days had passed and X was like, "Shouldn't we write our words down?" and I'm like "NOT YET!" haha πŸ™‚ Excited for your word for 2015 xo

  • Thank you, Faith!! I love those kinds of confirmations πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  • Oh, I do hope you continue to pray on it, Bijee! Just remember, you don't need to know what it even means in your life right now… that's the whole point: to study the word for a year. I usually take some time thinking about what (insert word here) means to other people, how I feel about it, and then what God says about it (aka: what does the Bible say about it?) It's a really fun way to spend the year and you really do learn so much.

  • Thank you!! I haven't read any of the linked up posts but love that you chose the rocks πŸ˜‰ We were on the same wavelength! PS- #purpleismyfav too XOXO

  • Thanks, Julia! One thing I didn't do last year that I'd love to do this year is keep a journal throughout the year and what I'm learning, etc. I think it would be fun to go back and read through each word's journal.

  • πŸ™‚ This is encouraging to me, Chelsea!! So excited.

  • XO!! (Thank you! It's my fave font right now) πŸ™‚

  • Love it!! That's awesome! (Do you have posts of your wedding??!)

  • Thanks, Tami! πŸ™‚

  • So glad you can too!!! πŸ™‚

  • So how about i went to the word of the year exercise i did for last year, and have accomplished, out made significant progress on three out of the four goals i set based on that word last year. In on it! Setting another word this year, even if i an late!
    Thanks for the inspiration!! ?

  • This is awesome!!!! πŸ™‚ I'm so glad you've decided to do it. Can't wait to see which word you choose!

  • Enjoy your adventures! Your idea for recording your word is also so lovely

  • Thank you, Vicky! πŸ™‚

  • I look forward to hearing about your adventures this year and what it looks like for 2015. I like that you put your word for each year on a rock, and will eventually will have a bowl full of memories, prompted by one word. That's cool. Yay to exciting adventures, especially when God invites you onto one. πŸ™‚

  • i love your word…and that you wrote in on a stone! can't wait to hear about all the adventures the Lord has planned for you this year!!

  • Thank you, Felecia! πŸ™‚

  • Thanks, lady! 2015 is looking pretty adventurous for the both of us! πŸ™‚
