Friends of ours gave us a really beautiful glass bowl as a wedding gift and it’s quickly become one of my favorite pieces to decorate with. I remember when I opened the gift, squealing with approval, and then wondering what the heck I was supposed to do with it. I ended up buying cool rocks at Michaels (these days you gotta pay for rocks #TheseAreTheDaysOfOurLives) and put them in the glass bowl, and then using it as a center piece on our dining room table.
When Christian and I each chose our word at the beginning of 2014, the question was where we would put our words – wanting to have them written down in a place we’d see them daily. I grabbed two of the rocks from the bowl, we wrote each of our words down on them, and then kept the rocks at our desks. Then, on NYE 2014, we recapped what we’d learned from our words and put the rocks back into the bowl. I loved the idea of one day having a pretty bowl full of pretty rocks, containing our yearly words that also held life lessons with so much meaning.
My word for 2014 was Praise. I learned SO, so much about the word and meaning of Praise last year, wow, and was gifted so many things to give praise for.
I left my corporate job to write and blog full time = a definite dream of mine
I was reminded of just how loved I am by my family and friends when my sweet husband threw me a surprise 30th birthday party (praise for all of the love in my life!)
Christian and I received confirmation that Nashville would be our next adventure together
(And truly, many other things in which I gave praise for.) When I think back on 2014, Praise most definitely describes it and for that I am so grateful.
When it came time to choose my word for 2015, I’d already thought of two possible words for this new year, but there was another word that kept popping up.
Each time this word would come up (and I’m talking about random times: seeing it printed on the side of a building, online, even in one of my dreams), I thought to myself- that cannot be the word God wants me to study this year. Adventure sounds so selfish, and fun. (haha) So I continued to pray on it, and that word continued to pop up. It hit me one morning that perhaps God feels I’m worthy of a grand adventure. And that maybe God’s idea of adventure for my life is different (and far better) than the one I’ve dreamed up. And so, it was decided. Adventure would be my word for 2015. That’s really all I can say about it right now, as I have no idea what this word will mean in my life this next year, but I’m excited, I am ready, I am willing. I am grateful 🙂
