Changes at Ember Grey!

October 14, 2015

I spent hours yesterday (literally- 2 1/2 hours) singing THIS 90’s SONG as I wrote this post but, for the life of me, couldn’t remember who sang it (or what 99% of the lyrics were) so I just sang the only part I could remember over and over and over to myself, and then I called Christian, who was in Chicago, as he was attempting to fall asleep and proceeded to sing it to him but – again – the only part I remembered which was, “Everything changes, whoa.” – I seriously sang “Everything changes, whoa” probably 10 times, asking him what song it was. (He didn’t know. Said he’d need more information or something.) So you can imagine my TOTAL excitement when I finally remembered it was Kathy Troccoli and at 11pm I blasted it on repeat, singing into a make-believe microphone as Cleo stared at me with a look that said, “You’re an idiot.” So please- do me a favor and listen to it as you read this post, mkay? (You can also watch the video at the end of this post because it’s just FULL of 90’s awesomeness.)

Alright, guys, it’s about that time! I’ll be moving this space from Blogger to WordPress next week, much thanks to Amanda from The Suitcase Designs! I’ve lost way too many drafts on Blogger – hours of work down the hole – not to mention, I love the creative freedom WP seems to give (as well as the security of owning Ember Grey) so yes- it’s just time.
What does this mean for you? Here are just a few important things to note:
If you are currently following Ember Grey via GFC (Google Friend Connect), you will want to follow me in another way since GFC will no longer be connected to this space. Other ways you can follow Ember Grey:

FeedlyBloglovin, Facebook, or via email subscription which can be found directly under my social media links on the righthand side of my blog, underneath my “Welcome” picture.

The Grateful Heart linkup will still be live and open next week, even through the move! As I find my way back after the move, please be patient with me. I’ll be a new WP user, attempting to navigate myself around “these new parts” (did that sound southern?)
I’m REALLY excited about this change and feel it’s just one step closer to where I see Ember Grey ultimately heading. For those of you already on WP, please share your favorite plugins in the comments below!

(Everything changes, whoa.)

PS- Be sure to check back here tomorrow – Heather from Heather Here & There is sharing her “One Thing” on this space and it’s so, so good. I’m so excited to share it with you all!

Best of luck with the transfer! WP is so easy.

    • Thanks, lady! I’m finally feeling ready now and the fact that so many people have raved about it… must means something, right?!

  • I’ll be subscribing to your blog via email now. I have you on Google Friend Connect currently. I hope the move goes well. You’re doing a lot of moving these days! Since my granddaughter has moved in I’ve been singing “Let it Go” from the Frozen movie all.the.time. At least the chorus part, so I know what you mean about singing a song over and over again.

  • Yay! Welcome to the WP family soon!

  • You will love WordPress – and I LOVE Amanda from the Suitcase Design. She did my move last year and I needed her yesterday for something and she was immediately there. There are so many great plugins – Coschedule is certainly helpful and Amanda typically gives you suggestions also. I think it’s good to simply stat playing around with it and see what you need. I’m not an expert but will certainly be glad to help you!

    • She has been SO fabulous already… as you can imagine I had a list of questions for her, all of them answered. Thank you for your offered help, Sheryl!

  • It’s so funny to me that (when I was somewhere with cable TV as we did not have it) when I watched MTV that these people and videos were “cool” at that time. I laugh.
    Congrats on the move!!!

  • You are going to love wordpress! It’s so great — I don’t have anything negative to say about it 🙂

  • Woohoo! Congrats on taking this next big step. I will admit, the first time I ever had WordPress I absolutely HATED it. So, I went back to Blogger (this was a couple years ago). But, then I was informed that all of the issues I was having weren’t due to WordPress, they were due to the theme I had bought and was using. So, I found my way back and I LOVE it now.

    • Thanks, girl! I just felt like it was time for this next step. I’m looking forward to learning new things!

  • Good luck! I actually went the OTHER way and jumped ship from wordpress to blogger years ago! Different strokes for different folks! Good luck!

  • Ha! Gotta love a good 90s song being stuck in our heads, while we dance around in our own concerts. I’m eager to hear more about this WordPress – it seems like so many folks are making the switch. I haven’t had any issues with Blogger but I’m always open to new things!

    • Hey, I say “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” – if you’re happy with Blogger I would stay right there! 🙂

  • I think we just became best friends because I LOVE (I mean LOVE) 90’s music.

Make sure you download the “akismit” plug-in (I think that’s what it’s called). It helps filter out spam comments and it really helped me. Happy transferring!

    • haha! I’m a big fan of both 80s and 90s but this song really reminded me of my love for 90s. SO good 😉

(Thank you!! I’ll definitely check out akismit!)

  • Good luck with the move! I still debate this. Maybe early next year!

    • Thank you, Trish – I’d been thinking about moving for over 6 months… it finally just felt like it was the right time.

  • Jae

You’re going to love WordPress, Em! I haven’t been blogging with them in a while, but if I need the reason to, I’d definitely go back. 😉

  • SFM

I LOVE Amanda! She is so great to work with and her designs are so beautiful! Good luck on the switch-a-roo!

    • So many people have used her for the move, and she has been SO great to work with. (I’ve actually purchased another design elsewhere but I agree- her designs are beautiful.)

  • I totally remember Kathy Troccoli! Blast from the past when I first became a believer in middle school. :-p If I ever am able to devote more time to my blog, I’ll probably switch to WordPress as well!

    • You do?!? I love that! Aside from my parents, I don’t know anyone else who’s heard of her. (Another reason I felt the need to share it on here, haha)

  • Switching was the best thing I could have ever done. I think you are just going to love it! The plugins are too amazing for words…so I am excited for you! Good luck with an easy transition – but I’m sure you are in good hands.

    • I have heard this so many times – it’s been very reassuring! Do you have favorite plugins?

  • big fan of wordpress and even bigger fan on kathy’s huge hair….i need to go get some hairspray and change up my do 🙂

  • Cant’ wait to see how it goes for you! I have been considering switching this fall when things “slow down” yeah right! Maybe I should just do it the way I do everything else and jump in feet first!

    • That was me, Shelly! I put this off for months and months and finally just scheduled it.

  • So excited for you and your blog….any questions? Ask away!!! And by the way, could you be any prettier? I think not. And for the record, the inside beauty matches the outside beauty!

    • You are the absolute BEST. Thank you, Anne. I have pinned all of your tutorials 🙂

(And for the record, you have me smiling – your note has warmed my heart. Thank you 🙂 xo)

  • I wanted to start my blog on wordpress, but someone else has the same name and guess what? They have never used the blog…one post about there start to blogging and that’s it! I want to ask them to drop the blog so I can use the space. Good luck with your new move and I hope everything goes well with everything!

  • Woohoo!! Exciting times ahead (that have nothing to do with kitchen cabinets lol)!! 🙂 Good luck with the move, can’t wait to see the new space!!
