Currently…

August 19, 2014
I love reading these Currently posts from other bloggers and yet every time I go to do one of my own, I realize just how weird I am. I debated over whether or not to share this with you guys, as this is totally a glimpse into my day and brain but you know… when in Rome.

Loving: This new running kick I’ve been on. (Oh, yeah. I’m like some sort of pro now. I’ve gone 3 times.) We’ll see how long this lasts but for now- I’m loving the alone time and relief from stress it gives!

Reading: You’re about to judge me a WHOLE lot right now and that’s okay. I just started reading the Twilight series (I know, I’m like 23976 years behind) (not to mention I’m 30…. reading Twilight) aaaand I’m totally into them. I’ll even go as far to say I haven’t been able to put them down. (And the books are SO much better than the movies.) (Seriously, who am I?) (Still Team Edward, for the record.)
Feeling: Anxious about heading back to the corporate world for 2 days a week for a few months while I fill in for a maternity leave at my former job. I’ve gotten pretty used to this work-from-home schedule and simply writing every day. #coffeeme
Watching: Nothing at the moment but I did just watch the movie The Other Woman and it was so terrible. Leslie Mann (love her) was hilarious in it… but ugh. It just wasn’t as good or as funny as I thought it would be.
Writing: Other than this post and other posts in the works, I have started a new writing project… one I NEVER in a million years thought I’d ever ever ever do. I have started writing a novel from an idea I’ve had since I was young. Most likely to be finished in 2050 πŸ˜‰ but I’m doing it… and really enjoying it.
Listening: to the French Hipster channel on Spotify. Totally random, yes, but I love writing to this channel. Maybe because I don’t know what they’re saying and therefore I’m not getting distracted w/ the lyrics.
Wanting: To re-learn French. X and I have been talking about taking a trip to Paris (life-long dream of mine) in the next couple of years and I would love to be able to at least attempt to carry on conversations with people there. (And yeah, probably be “that American” who is annoying and butchering the french language.) C’est la vie! πŸ™‚
Needing: Cleo to leave me alone the next time I attempt some morning yoga.
What are you up to currently?

  • I literally cracked up about Twilight. Even my 3 year old jumped because my cackle was SO loud!!! And thank god I read this before renting or buying The Other Woman. I absolutely LOVE Leslie Mann (she's married to the director Judd Appatow if you didn't know) and I think she's hilarious. How disappointing that the movie is bad. Daaaaaaaaaaamn it!

P.S. I am totally doing this currently post. I have done it before and I think I am due for one as well πŸ™‚

  • haha!! I literally woke up in the middle of the night last night, debating over whether or not to share the whole Twilight bit. ha!

You may like the movie?! There were definitely funny parts (all Leslie Mann) but I guess I just felt like it was trying too hard to be funny… and cliche and cheesy. I don't know, I just didn't dig it!

    PS- YES! Do it!!!! πŸ™‚

  • I read a little bit of Twilight but it wasn't my cup of tea. The movies? Yah. I dig those. I'm just not an avid reader. Unless it's scary and about zombies.
Leslie Mann is funny. Yes. Cameron Diaz isn't. Her shit is just blah. And to be honest, that shit wouldn't happen in reality. They'd be killing each other and the husband. Hahaha

  • This post is awesome!! I may do one of these posts! I always enjoy seeing what other people are doing!! Don't feel bad about the Twilight books. I totally read all 3 of them in like a week when I was pregnant!
I was going to rent The Other Woman but will be re-thinking it..We watched Lone Survivor, The Purge (weird) and Last Vegas. We are way behind on all of our movies but hoping we can catch up!!

  • I've never read the Twilight books, but I would be in the same boat as you if I decided to read them all now! Good for you for wanting to learn French! I have the French Rosetta Stone but I can't ever force myself to sit down and actually do all of the exercises.

  • ashortblonde

I just started running too! I'm so terrible but the stress relief is a real thing! haha When we were in Paris my French words were said with a Chicago accent…Jordan couldn't stop laughing at me. Bon Jour was like Ban Jaur….haha

  • I've been working on a novel…for like 4 years now! haha. Actually two. Maybe I will get them done by 2050 as well.

  • go you writing a novel. i have written a couple and they are just sitting on my computer! boo me.

  • Right, it's official. We're related. So I guess that makes me 'weird' too? Awesome!

The Other Woman…horrible! I kept hearing good things but I was so disappointed. I was grumbling about the lack of decent romcoms just the other day. What happened to the good ol Bridget Jones type movies?! #whenhughgrantwashot

Are you at least going to give us a little hint on the type of novel you're writing?…

Aaaaand let's re-learn French together and then go to Paris to use it! I downloaded the Duolingo app a few months ago and when I have a few spare minutes I practice basic French. Hard to believe I actually took 3 years worth when I was in school.

  • I've actually never read any of the Twilight series either….but I actually was one of the few people that didn't like the movies either. I watched the first one and absolutely hated it. Then everyone talked me into giving it another chance so I watched the 2nd movie and didn't care for that one either. I don't know. I think I just grew up reading Anne Rice so I was used to that type of vampire. Not the sparkly kind. haha!!

  • #TeamEdward

I took French in high school, and at first I though I would want to take it in college too. But then I saw the American Sign Language classes online and now I really want to take those instead.

  • THe books are SO much better than the movies! No judgement here. I cant wait to hear about your novel – that's amazing! And if you are trying to speak French in France, you are already ahead of the "annoying Americans" πŸ™‚

  • Katie @ A Beautiful Little Adv

No judgement! I only read them a few years ago after screaming NO WAY JOSE for far too long. Verdict? I finished all of them in one week while on vacation at the beach. OOPS!

  • No judgment here!! I started the books only after I had watched the first one or two and I had multiple people tell me to read them and I was "just not into that"……yea…about that! Lol! The books are SO much better than the movie but that's usually the case I find! πŸ™‚ team Edward all the way!

  • I read all the Twilight books before the movie was out. For the books, I was team Edward but when I saw the movies I was team Jacob. He won me over.

  • Kacie

Hahaha, well I see nothing weird in this post! YAY for you writing a novel–it's gonna be amazing! There's a Russian artist I love listening to but I've never mentioned her on my blog cause I'm like, who's gonna get that?? πŸ˜‰ And Daniel and I just said how we're wanting to learn Russian (me relearn), so I found it funny that you're in the same situation with French. πŸ˜€

  • Haha, oh gosh – those pics of you + Cleo are too funny! And I can't wait to hear what you think about Twilight. I haven't read any of the books yet (or soon the movies), but I'd love to. So no judgment here! πŸ™‚

  • I liked The Other Woman but I admit my expectations weren't that high!

  • haha! I love this! I once tried to do yoga at home…it ended with my dog curled up in a ball underneath me while in downward facing dog.

  • Okay 1. I love those books. Judge away. 2. I feel like all the funny scenes from The Other Woman were in the previews! Everything else was just kind of bleh.

  • My dog is the same exact way when I do yoga. She usually bumps her face into me. I've never ever read the twilight series, and probably never will, haha but hey if you like a book then keep on trecking on my friend

  • Tanya Jean

Okay, this post just made me insanely happy for one reason… TWILIGHT! So I've totally read these books a billion times but it's been a while and for some reason I just had a craving to pick it back up again. Reading the first one at the moment. Book twins πŸ˜‰

  • Paris?!? Oui Oui Mon Amie! Sounds wonderful. If you ever need someone to read your novel and give feedback I'm your girl. Is there anything you can't do??

  • Melissa Camacho

Lol, I totally agree about the twilight books. For me the books are always better though. And I agree about the other woman. We watched it last weekend. My hubby totally predicted how it would end too!

  • LOL the Cleo pictures!!!!

  • Bek

Writing a novel AND the French Hipster Pandora channel? I'm intrigued : )

  • amy

I love that you think you're weird, but I think you're completely normal! I love currently posts!! I could never get into the Twilight books…and the movies put me to sleep! However, my sis, who's 33 has read all the books at least 2 times each. And also, I'm jealous of your work schedule! I long for the day I can work from home, or even 2 days a week!! Someday…

  • The books are SO much better than the movies! Don't worry, I owned all of them in hardcover until a year ago when I realized how out of place they looked on my shelves lol. Read them a few times. πŸ™‚ And you might just find you enjoy the change of pace for those 2 days and look forward to them! And if not, it's only for a set period of time – always look on the bright side of life (whistle, whistle) πŸ˜‰
A novel??! AWESOME. You go, girl!!

  • Your cat cracks me up!! I have seriously contemplated picking up the Twilight book series but haven't brought myself to do it yet lol!

  • I'm being so serious- I'm on the 3rd one right now but the first 2? I read in a week. I couldn't put them down.

  • so much better!! And YES- it was a total change of pace. I'm sure I'll be reading them again in the future πŸ™‚

  • Clearly from all of these comments we're ALL weird!! I'm so relieved! ha! This week has been better getting used to the 2 days a week thing… I hope you have that someday too!!!!!

  • πŸ™‚ I've learned to never say never. Sometimes I surprise myself! ha!

  • she's insane!!!!!

  • I'm sure that is true about most books vs movies. I'd been forced to watch the movies when they came out (my girl friends made me) and when I was reading the books I felt so cheated because they were SO much better than the movies!!

  • oooh, I love that idea, Anne!! Right now I have random parts of it written so I need to spend some time and start putting it together but thank you- you will be my girl!

  • Your comment just made ME insanely happy! I'm so glad I'm not alone here!!!! Yes, I immediately bought the rest of them after reading the 1st one because I knew they'd be books I'd read again in the future. Book twins! πŸ™‚

  • haha!! Let's just be weird together then! πŸ™‚ #whenhughgrantwashot hahahah – you are so right!! When did this change?! How?!

Yes to Paris!! I've never heard of Duolingo before and am sooo excited now to check it out. I took French in middle school and high school and it's really sad how barely any of that information stuck. Hopefully it'll be like riding a bike!? πŸ˜‰

  • I don't know what it is about dogs/cats and yoga! (Girl- never say never. I ALWAYS said I'd never read the books.. and here I am. ha!)

  • I'm so glad I'm not alone in the Twilight love!! πŸ™‚ Hilarious that that's the one thing I was mostly worried about sharing and almost everyone has agreed/connected with it. (Perhaps I'm not so weird after all?!) And yes about the movie- ALL of the good parts were in the previews!

  • exactly. They love the mats! And getting in the way! πŸ˜‰

  • Perhaps mine were too high πŸ˜‰ I love Leslie Mann… I thought she was good in it!

  • Definitely read the books first if you decide to start this journey (ha). I never thought I'd get into this series (like, EVER) but here I am!

  • interesting! My girl friend was the same… she switched teams when she saw the movies.

  • whew!! πŸ˜‰ Let's learn languages together! I'm checking out Duolingo (app) now!

  • same!!!!!!! Never say never, right?! πŸ˜‰

  • oh I know. I was the exact same. I would get so annoyed with my girl friends when they'd talk about Twilight.. and now years later I'm like, "Let's talk about Twilight!!"

  • #TeamEdward !!!

I took French in school too and it's so sad how almost none of it stuck! I'm hoping it comes back quickly. (Sign Language would be awesome.)

  • thanks, lady! and GOOD FOR YOU!!!! I may reach out to you later with novel writing questions! πŸ™‚

  • that's awesome!!! Yes, that's one of my life goals.. to finish this novel now. Let's do it!

  • I wasn't a fan of the first move either… and then after reading the first book I felt so cheated because the movie left so much out and I feel like it didn't really give a good depiction of the relationships.

  • GO US!!!! I wake up now thinking about how to work the running into my day. I don't even know who I am anymore.

hahah!! I have to hear your Chicagoan French now!!

  • I always do this kind of thing. My girl friends will totally be into something and I'll refuse until years later and THEN I want to talk about it, ha!

  • Yes! Do a Currently post! πŸ™‚ It was fun and funny to share with you guys. What did you think of Lone Survivor?!

  • Maybe I should give the books a chance….Books are always better than the movies!

  • you didn't like the other woman?? i LOVED it!! i was just thinking today i wanted to get it and watch it again! it is one of my favorites!! leslie man was soooo funny! it loved that movie!! i think it is one of my favorites and i am going to buy it

  • I know! I thought for sure I would. I did think Leslie Mann was so hilarious in it, but I just wasn't feeling the other actors or the "one liners".

Happy Friday!!!!!! What are everyone’s weekend plans? Christian is out of town until Sunday and somehow I have managed to jam-pack my weekend with lots of to-dos, organizing, and get-togethers with friends. So basically the perfect girly weekend πŸ™‚

Sponsoring on EG is now available!! Did anyone catch the theme I decided to go with for the names of each spot?? πŸ˜‰ (Probably just lost a few would-be sponsors but it’s like I always say… MB forever.)
What would a Bolton reference be without a picture?! (You. are. WELCOME.)

I thought I’d get a little random for today’s post. Thank you, AnneCatherine, and Kym for the inspiration πŸ™‚

Currently, I am…

Reading: “Happy to be Alive Because…” by Chelsea Jacobs. (I started this book while on vacation and am just now getting back to it! I am the world’s slowest reader with not enough time in the day, as we already know.)
Loving: Katie’s adventures in Bali. I am living vicariously through her via her instagram account
Listening to: Stay With Me by Sam Smith. (Basically, I would drink his voice if I could.)
Making: things that shouldn’t be complicated, complicated. It’s annoying, even to me.
Wanting: more of these. Talk about SUPER comfortable – I could (and pretty much do, thank you new work-from-home life) live in these.
Cooking: Cereal. Let’s put it this way: I’m only eating cereal right now because I just set off the smoke alarm by burning my popcorn. So, baby steps. (This is what happens when X is out of town.)
Remembering: to give thanks for the present moment, and to not just focus on the future. This time is fleeting and I hope there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t give thanks with a grateful heart.
Planning: for our Nashville trip next month! I can. not. wait.
Laughing: over this part of Modern Family’s pilot episode. I die!!
Frustrated by: people who don’t return important phone calls, particularly someone you used to work for. Four voicemails seems a bit excessive, I know, and I’m totally over leaving them (I could vent in an entire post, but won’t.)
Excited forPlaying for Change in Chicago this Saturday. Are you going? One of our producer friends from LA will be playing in this again and it’s one of my all time favorite shows. Check back here Tuesday next week – I’ll be posting a recap!
Encouraged by: YOU. Other bloggers, blog readers, commenters, new friends made in blogland. You all inspire me.

  • Congrats! So excited for you! And I love posts like this….refreshing isn't it? And btw, I'm loving Katie's Instagram too. Can't wait til she blogs about it. Enjoy your weekend! Sounds fun!

  • I would eat cereal for every meal and be totally okay with it. Popcorn too!

  • Love Stay with Me. Like, really love! Checking out your sponsoring options after my new design is done πŸ™‚

  • Yes! Sam Smith. We saw him on SNL and became obsessed. Have a great weekend!

  • I'm so excited you are accepting sponsors now!! Yay!

  • Cat

Love me some cereal!!! BUT hate when people can't or shall I say won't return my calls or any kind of message!! I could joint you writing that post. Have a great girly weekend.

  • You've inspired me to do a completely random post! I just love this!!

  • I cook so much cereal when Chris goes out of town, it's not even funny.

  • I just had cereal for dinner because Colin's gone with the car – maybe some sushi if I start starving later!

  • Congrats!! πŸ™‚ I love Sam Smith too…such a beautiful voice. PS – you're not the only one burning popcorn. I asked M to put some in the microwave for me while I put the kiddo to sleep and all of a sudden that horrible burnt smell started wafting up the stairs…it CAUGHT FIRE!!!

  • Bahahahaha… Michael Bolton… day = made!

  • i LOVE that stay with me song!!! obsessed with it

  • there are just so many things i want to comment about in this post that i think i'd basically end up writing a follow-up post in your comments section.
but here are the important things:
-i never have time to read and i hate it
-"producer friends from la"…aj would die.
-speaking of aj, he's totally smitten with the idea of nashville right now. he's attempting to convince his mom that we should all road trip down for a visit this summer. i suppose i might as well look for somewhere to live while we're there…haha
-just submitted a sponsor ad…been waiting for you to do this! πŸ™‚

  • Cereal is delicious. No judgement here! And girl you crack me up with your MB obsession. I love it.
