EG Interviews: Mr. Cullen (A Grateful Heart)

April 27, 2015
Um, anyone else wondering how it’s the start of yet another week ALREADY?! You may have noticed from both of my Instagram and Twitter confessions that I had a totally productive completely unproductive weekend. Christian was out of town so naturally this meant I stayed in my pjs, ate toast for dinner, and watched Nicholas Sparks movies… something I’m not proud of but will tell you it was one slippery slope. You watch one Nicholas Sparks movie, you just gotta keep going. And I’m not saying these movies are good, either. I’m just saying it happened, ok? It happened and by the end of the sap marathon, when I’d decided to watch Nights in Rodanthe and then bawled my freaking eyes out for 10 straight minutes, nothing and I mean nothing could save me. I don’t know when I became this person but I’m just going to blame it on this blog and all of blogland in general. You know, because I totally did the NS marathon #fortheblog, anyway.  (LIES.)
I thought it might be fun to switch up today’s Grateful Heart a bit and do another edition of EG Interviews: Mr. Cullen (joining Betsy’s Guys Behind the Blog linkup)!

Has Starbucks ever spelled your name wrong on a cup?
X: Never, because I tell them my name is, ‘X’… and if they can’t spell that, we’ve got a problem.
Who would play your wife in a movie or TV show about your lives?
X: Jennifer Lawrence.
Em: Why?
X: Because you look just like her!
What is your proudest accomplishment?
X: Taking the time to get my life together after my divorce… I took three years and didn’t date at all in that entire time. I took actual focused time… I took pause to learn who I was and to make myself better so I could be ready for someone like you once I met you. And it was like, as soon as I did that, I met you. And my life and my heart were ready for you.
What is your favorite holiday and why?
X: Christmas because I can whistle Christmas songs and it’s not annoying. Whereas when I do it throughout the rest of the year, you get annoyed.
Em: That I do, sir. You are correct about that.
X: Plus everyone’s happy and I love all of the parties… when all of the kids are around during Christmastime it feels really magical… it makes you feel like a kid.
What is your favorite breed of dog?
X: I like Great Pyrenees… because they give really good hugs. They’re just really big and good watch dogs and really sweet.
(Note: My parents have a GP, named Hank, and both Hank and Christian are equally obsessed with each other.)
Em: I thought for sure you were going to say Oooj is your favorite kind of dog.
X: He is but if I were to choose our next dog, it would be a GP.
Em: What would the dog’s name be?
X: Peanut Butter. Or Oatmeal.
So is it any wonder as to what I’m grateful for today?? I mean, c’mon. He’s like the funniest and coolest person I know AND I’m married to him. Score, man.

  • Nicholas Sparks, read all his books, watched most of his movies…a girl must do what a girl must do!

  • Oh, Nights in Rodanthe…gets me every time!! I have gotten to the point I can't hardly bring myself to watch a Nicholas Sparks because it takes me a day or so to recover! πŸ˜‰

  • Umm, nothing wrong with a Nicholas Sparks movie marathon. Sometimes you just need to watch sappy movies and cry! Love your interview with your hubby, so fun! πŸ™‚

  • You do look like Jennifer Lawrence! Loved reading this. πŸ™‚

  • Ah love these posts and I do see the resemblance! Nicholas Sparks movies are better than Lifetime movies at least.

  • love that photo of you all and love his answers! also, your weekend- mine was super busy and this sounds so wonderful!!

  • Confession…I made Jake watch a Nicholas Sparks movie with me the other day because it was that kind of day and I didn't care how much he hated it….I wanted him on the couch with me. So he was. haha. I promised to wait another year at least before I make him do that again. πŸ™‚

When we come to Nashville one of these days we need a double date! I think we would have a blast together!

  • You are one lucky gal! You've got quite the catch πŸ™‚

  • "Come here, Peanut Butter… Sit!" I'm dying. And I would love to cuddle a dog named PB. πŸ™‚

  • Loved his answer about finding you. So sweet! I'm a tad bit jealous about your weekend. I want to spend one in pjs, eating toast, and watching movies. Sounds perfect to me!

  • Sharon

I'm grateful that God loves me, and that He looks at me through Jesus' righteousness! Otherwise, I might just be a bit (!!) tarnished!

This interview was so fun. And, I had to particularly chuckle at the Starbuck's name thing. They always spell my name wrong, sometimes even when I spell it out for them. Maybe I'll start using "X"!!

  • I just love y'all both so much. These conversations always make my day. This week is already on track to be amazing so this helps!! The GP names are hilarious!!

  • Since my sister was like 7 years old (she's 28 now), she's whistled Sleigh Ride throughout the day, like almost everyday, all year round! Haha…it's a family joke now, but we always know when she's in a jolly mood. And….I used to binge read Nicholas Sparks books and bawl! Steve would make so much fun of me. πŸ™‚ Your hubs sounds amazing…hoping we can go on a double date someday. πŸ˜‰

  • that is such a sweet answer for his proudest accomplishment. but for the real….no christmas songs until it's christmas time (my husband does the same and it drives me nuts)!

  • So I'm linking up with you while you link up with me….ha!
His answer for #1 seems perfectly logical, however, AJ's name is literally TWO LETTERS, and yet he got "Asia" at Starbucks once and just this morning, we were out for crepes, and we were wondering where our food was when the girl called "Angel"….it took us a minute, but we soon realized that that was us. Also, his proudest accomplishment made me a little misty! His heart and his life were ready for you…so sweet!

  • Ha, fun interview! I don't know that I have eve interviewed my hubby for me blog – maybe I need to do that. πŸ˜‰

  • Oh too funny, I had a N.S. binge weekend also. And I am not joking your husband is the coolest ever. Greatest accomplishment ever answer is amazing.

  • I sing Christmas songs year round…oops! I love his answer about recovering from his divorce…so honest and so sweet!!
I think peanut butter works for a name if you call a 2nd dog jelly!

  • #StarbucksLifeHacks! Seriously, great idea with the anti-name name! Lol. I agree with all these answers! GPs are so beautiful- I love Newfoundlands, too!

  • chall1018

Emily, I can't tell you how much I love these posts. The love you two share is so admiring! You guys are adorable.

  • aw, thank you Crystal!! πŸ™‚

  • Thanks, lady πŸ™‚ (PS- I'm so happy to have you back in blogland!)

  • haha!! No one has ever misspelled my name but if that was a 'thing' I think I'd come up with something easier too. Love Newfoundlands!

  • What's funny is that I used to hum Christmas songs year-round ALL THE TIME, before I met Christian. And then I worked really hard to stop, and then met Christian who yes, whistles Christmas songs all the time. So funny!

(Um, he TOTALLY talks about naming the other dog Jelly if we have one named Peanut Butter. ha!)

  • I was so surprised at his proudest accomplishment answer! Melt! πŸ™‚

(Which movie is your fave NS movie?!)

  • Yes! Do it!! πŸ™‚ It can be pretty entertaining.

  • Love it! Asia and Angel – so funny!! So are those nicknames for him now?! πŸ˜‰ Love linking up together, Bets!

  • I thought so too πŸ˜‰ And I'm glad to know X isn't the only one who does the whole Christmas song year-round thing! Gah!

  • SO FUNNY!! haha! And absolutely to the double date, Amy!! Can't wait for the day! πŸ™‚

  • aw! Thanks, lady πŸ™‚ It will be interesting to see what we do end up naming our next dog…

  • Amen, Sharon! Thanks for this sweet note! πŸ™‚

  • I don't have many weekends like that and I hadn't planned on having one last weekend… it just sort of happened and couldn't be stopped. Now I feel like it should be "a thing" every so often! πŸ™‚

  • Okay, right?! That poor dog!! ha! I would do Peanut Butter over Oatmeal though. (Ugh, I can't even believe I'm considering it…)

  • πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I think so too, Kel.

  • haha!! I love that he did! I know Christian would if I begged him to, but I can't watch movies like that with him…. because I can't take the staring when I start bawling. haha

YES to a double date, Jamie!! Come visit anytime! πŸ™‚

  • Yes, I can't wait to hear how your party planning went! Maybe you'll get more of a relaxing weekend this next πŸ˜‰

  • They ARE better than Lifetime movies, you are correct. (They're still kinda in that category but… you know. I'll still watch them.) πŸ˜‰

  • It's better than looking like Glenn Close, right?! πŸ˜‰ haha

  • Agreed!!

  • I just wasn't expecting that ending, oh my gosh! I cried for a good 10 minutes after it was over! Such a mess.

  • haha! Thank you for your support! πŸ˜‰

  • Liz

Okay…heart-melted. The question about his proudest accomplishment. Perfect. And you probably walked into his life just when he needed you. I love this!! Sorry for missing the past few weeks…we are busy moving (I know you know)…can't wait to link up soon!!!! Love your words, sweet friend <3 xoxo

  • Well there is always the notebook πŸ™‚ but I really like safe haven. Havent seen 2 newest nor the nights in rodanthe or message in a bottle.
I dont like dear john πŸ™ makes me upset

  • His proudest accomplishment….OH MY, so so sweet. Chuck is also divorced and when we first started dating he told me he would never get married again. For some reason I stuck around, and 7 years later here we are…all things happen in good, due time. Love this post!

  • Safe Haven was the first one I watched the other night, then watched Rodanthe. (I did not like Dear John either.. saw it in the theater and was SO not a fan!) The Notebook makes me cry for days! I can't do it!

  • Liz, I have been thinking of you!!! Heading over to your space tonight or tomorrow morning to catch up. I hope all is well!!! πŸ™‚ xo

  • Funny enough, both Christian and I said we wouldn't get married… oh how things change! πŸ˜‰ (That story is here in Part Two of our Love Story: )

  • I recently got Lucky One and its slowly growing on me. I feel like the lead gal (whose name totally eacapes me right now) seems much older than she really is….
I will have to check out Rodanthe

  • Jae

I'm sorry, but on some days, this series tops Grateful Heart Mondays. Your conversations with X never fail to crack me up, Em!

  • haha!! I understand, Jae! I'm right there with you!

  • Kim Jones

You and your man seriously crack me up. Love it.
