EG recap Friday Favorites

Friday Favorites

us

Happy Friday!! Did anyone else have a crazy week? Holy cow, mine was just insane. Between dog grooming appointments and bathroom painting and getting our car windshield replaced (how can a tiny rock do so much damage, that’s what I want to know) and one of my bffs bringing her firstborn babe into the world (!!!) and cleaning and laundry and packing (because yes, we are out of town again!) – there wasn’t much time for blogging and writing. While it didn’t feel like there was much balance this week, I also secretly love it when there’s a lot going on (because I’m a planning & list making & doing pro, remember?) (There were lots of lists this week.)

I wanted to share some of my favorites with you all today though, as well as update you on a few things coming up next month…

I am really excited for August; I have a new vlog series that will debut in a few weeks and I’m also bringing back the Grateful Heart Monday linkup! If you’re a new reader here, the Grateful Heart linkup takes place each week and is a place where you can link up your own post about whatever you’re grateful for. The idea behind this is not only to start your week on a positive note (because Mondays can be rough, as we all know), but also to be able to meet other bloggers and feel encouraged by their words too. The linkup will start each Monday and will be open until that Friday of each week. I hope you’ll join me, beginning August 22nd!

Now on to some of my faves…

  • Floating homes with bedrooms under water… um, this isn’t your typical house boat! You can read more about this futuristic concept here. Could you live in a house like this?

  • What My Vacation Taught Me by Anne from Love the Here and Now. Not that it would take a blog post to entice me to go on a vacation, but I really loved all that Anne had to share from her recent trip – and yes, I’m ready for a vacay now πŸ˜‰
  • And finally, my absolute favorite thing from this week – Michelle Obama’s incredibly inspiring and empowering speech at the DNC. Speaking about her daughters…

“When they set off for their first day at their new school, I will never forget that winter morning as I watched our girls, just 7 and 10 years old, pile into those black SUVs with all those big men with guns. And I saw their little faces pressed up against the window, and the only thing I could think was, what have we done? See, because at that moment I realized that our time in the White House would form the foundation for who they would become and how well we managed this experience could truly make or break them. That is what Barack and I think about every day as we try to guide and protect our girls through the challenges of this unusual life in the spotlight, how we urge them to ignore those who question their father’s citizenship or faith. How we insist that the hateful language they hear from public figures on TV does not represent the true spirit of this country. How we explain that when someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level. No, our motto is, when they go low, we go high.”

You can read her entire speech here.

We’re partying it up in Indiana with family for the long weekend, you can follow along in my midwest adventures via Instagram and Snapchat (embergrey). Have a great weekend, everybody!
