Grateful Heart Monday (+ week-long linkup!)

June 9, 2014
I am starting my week with a grateful heart and here’s why,
Answered prayers. You know, it’s funny… you often hear people say “Sometimes God answers your prayer with a ‘Yes’ but it’s not the way you pictured it to happen.” I’ve heard that (not directed towards me but just in general) all throughout my life and it’s always kind of an internal eye-roll for me when I hear it. Maybe because I feel like a statement like that is something you’d find in a children’s bible book or something (ha) and it just feels so… cliche? Kind of annoying? Kinda like when people say “It will happen in God’s timing.” Like, yeah.. while that may be (sometimes*) true, it sure is easier to say, and perhaps especially after the fact, but when you’re going through something and are still waiting for AN answer, it’s one of those phrases I’ll give a little squinty-eyed smile to with a head nod and a raised eyebrow and then quickly go about my day. Does anyone know what I’m talking about?

*I say “sometimes” in regards to the phrase “It will happen in God’s timing” because sometimes it does not in fact happen. Because sometimes? Sometimes God’s answer is No. (And it’s those times I remind myself, it’s only because God has something better in store for me.) But this is a whole other post.

Well I’m going to get real annoying right now. I’m going to get real cliche. There was a moment late last week when I was sitting in my office, just sitting there… thinking. Thinking about all of the specific things I’d been praying for in the last couple months, and then I looked at my weekly planner and it hit me. God had answered my prayers …. and…. (are you ready?)… not at all the way I’d pictured it to happen. It was one of those moments where I kind of kicked myself for making fun of that phrase my whole life, mixed with a huge prayer of thanks to God for the ways He is blessing my life and answering my prayers.

All of this a reminder to me that my thoughts are not God’s thoughts. This world and how I perceive it to be is not how God knows it to be. And honestly? It’s completely mind-blowing to even TRY and think about who God is…. how holy He is. I mean, seriously- mind. blown. And I can’t think about it for too long because my thoughts start spinning and my brain will start to hurt. What’s even more mind-blowing is to think about how this great God… this great and holy God – loves me. Crazy. I mean truly the craziest love I’ve ever heard of…. and I hope not a second goes by that I’m not forever grateful for that. (Thank you, Jesus!) For not just a God who answers prayers, my prayers, but for a God who loves me, even when His answer is No.

How’s THAT for a mind-blowing Monday?!

I loved Kacie’s button so much last week that I asked if she might do another one for this week. I think it’s SO super cute. Next month, there will be a Grateful Heart Monday button option in the Sponsor/Advertising section of Ember Grey. Stay tuned, all of you (aspiring) designers 😉

**Oh and by the way…. there’s been an update to Thursday’s CWMH post. My dad sent me an email yesterday, kindly notifying me that it’s actually “nougat” (vs. nueget). Two things, mkay? Yes, this proves that Christian and I definitely don’t know what we’re talking about when it comes to most things discussed late at night, and also, I’d like to thank you all for not calling me out in the comments section. (Unless it’s just that you didn’t know it was “nougat” either.) (Because I mean, really. Who says “nougat” anymore?)
What are YOU grateful for today?

  • This post hits home….thanks for the reminder that the answers may come come but not on our schedule. Patience and acceptance right? Love the button!!

  • God has been really setting me on a path lately and this post really reenforces that. It gives me goosebumps!!
    Happy Monday girl!!

  • I love when our prayers are answered, but in another form and fashion, yet somehow it all works out. It's amazing! Happy Monday 🙂

  • Thank God for answered prayers – in any form!! 🙂

  • What a wonderful post! We serve an amazing God, don't we? I needed this today so THANK YOU! Happy Monday!

  • When we finally notice God's answers to our prayers it's like the biggest sigh of relief. It's kind of fun to see the different ways God answers our prayers. While it's not always what we want or expected, it's in God's hands and that is perfect. Hope you're having a great Monday. I will definitely link up this week. I was too unmotivated to do anything for today.

  • I loved this post! I think God serves me a slice of humble pie every. single. day. lately. I really related to how things happen in his time, not ours, and how sometimes the answer isn't exactly what we were looking for. I like the idea of writing down the prayers so it's easier to 'check in' to see if any answers have been given. Sometimes I'm so busy waiting for the answer I want, I forget to check for the answer he's giving!

  • So I just wrote my post for the link up, then read your post…yeah, I guess I kinda copied you. 🙂

  • this is wonderful…so everything i needed to read today! after praying the same prayers for a year, it's sometimes so hard to just wait for him to answer! but yeah, when i think about how much he loves us, i'm completely overwhelmed.

  • I am thankful for answered prayers, no matter what the answer may be. It is nice to be reminded God does hear us when we pray and he answers our prayers.

  • Cat

I always feel so refreshed after reading the grateful monday post. This is such an encouraging link up!! And by the way who knew Ted's name could be spelled so many different ways, ha 😉

  • Such a lovely post and the button is so cute!

  • I know this feeling all too well. At times it's really comforting to know we don't know it all…that someone else is watching out for our best interest.
