grateful heart monday

A Grateful Heart (+ week-long linkup!)

Grateful Heart Monday w/ Ember Grey
Today I am especially grateful for girl friends. On Saturday night, I got together with two out of the handful of the girls I grew up with. It’s rare that all of us can get together, with many of us living in different cities or states, not to mention attempting to run busy schedules and having what seems like a million babies (I swear- there is always at least ONE of them who is pregnant) 😉 ha.

I have known Erin & Ash since the 4th grade. We essentially grew up together and there’s something really special when not only do you have history with someone, but you genuinely like them – even 20 years later. It’s a friendship that’s turned into more of a sisterhood, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.I have blogged about all of the girls here as a Flashback Friday post, but wanted to share it again for today’s Grateful Heart post.

Through thick and thin. At our very worst, somewhere in the middle, and what can only be our best getting better. Friends since the Barbie days, since the days when recess was our favorite class, until cheerleading came along, until much bigger sports came along (that most likely had to do with a boy wearing our favorite jersey).

Since the days of a new crush, sneaking out, broken hearts, and big dreams. Since the days of underage (lots of stuff), possible regrets- even though none of us would ever admit that we had a single one. Since the days of college and smelly dorms and of-age (lots of stuff), being miles away from each other – yet somehow it never pulled us apart (for too long, anyway).

Since the days of true loves (or maybe not), long nights with little sleep, more broken hearts (and mending), and possibly the best nights of our lives (so far). Since the days of laughing until it hurt (always), hugging until the tears stopped (or at least until we were too drunk to care anymore), and when sometimes silence and a smile was all that was needed.

Since the days of engagements, new homes, a few moves, weddings & celebrations, life lost but never forgotten, pregnancies, and beautiful new babies ever expanding the love of our circle (and not particularly in that specific order – because we don’t do it that way).

What are you grateful for?

Link up below and join the rest of us in starting each day this week with a grateful heart. Not enough time to write a Grateful Heart post today? No worries! This linkup will be open until Friday!

2. If you share your Grateful Heart post on social media, please use #gratefulheart so that we can all find each other (If you use this hashtag on twitter, tag me & I will retweet! @embergreyblog)

3. Carry on and be grateful! XO!

Lovely post! Friends are the best. Glad you had a chance to get together!

  • Girlfriends are the best.

  • I am grateful for family. We had a wonderful family get together on Saturday and I spent a lot of time with my brothter. 🙂

  • girlfriends are the best!! Not sure what I would do without my besties!! 😉

  • Since the 4th grade?!?! I don't think I have any friends who I've known that long! It doesn't help when you become an expat and have to make new friends every where you go. But I think that is just awesome that you have such great girlfriends.

Finding solid female friends has been a struggle most of my life until just recently. I've always been a quality over quantity person in the friend department. I don't have a ton of really close friends but the ones I have are solid gold!

  • I couldn't agree more! Especially in those times when your friends let you down, your family (if you're fortunate enough to have a good one), is always there for you.

  • I met two of my best friends in elementary school too (One in 3rd grade and one in 5th) and I'm almost 30 now! It's great to have friends that you have known for so long.

  • I met two of my best friends in kindergarten and 3rd grade, we have been friends ever since even over many miles different cities, states, and now countries. Friends are a blessing in life, I am grateful for. I'm glad you got to spend time with two of your best friends recently.

  • You, are such a beauty! Good girlfriends, truly are the best!

  • Girlfriends are the best! My best friend and I met in kindergarten (almost 25 years ago) and have been close ever since. We have been through the good times, the bad times and the ugly times! Annnnnd, the year we graduated from high school, her mom and my dad got married! So now, not only are we friends, we are sisters! I'm so very grateful for her and for all the memories we have made!

  • Great friends are the best!! 🙂 I have one or two brilliant ones from different times in my life – and the ones I never get to see, I know are my best, because after months of not seeing each other and sometimes not having time to catch up, it's just as if we were never apart when we do finally connect. 🙂 You can't be thankful enough for wonderful friends who are there for you through thick and thin!!

  • I have a handful of girl friends that I've been friends with since kindergarten. It's so neat to see our lives taking completely different paths, yet keeping hold of our friendship. I'm glad you have that too!

  • I love it! Girl friends are the absolute bestest 🙂

  • SO true!!! We all need our girlfriends. They are necessary for our sanity. I know I'd be lost without them. Even if we don't see them as often as we'd like to, we still know they are there when we need them!

  • oh girl….girlfriends are the best! Something about girl time is just so refreshing! 🙂

  • It's so needed! It was so nice not to talk about work and to just talk about silly things and life 😉 (And we ate a TON haha!)

  • I'm so thankful for them. I hope we're still getting together like this when we're 90! 🙂

  • It's not often but we savor every moment!

  • The BEST! 🙂

  • I was thinking about you all weekend and hoping you and your bro were having a great time!

  • me either, lady!! 🙂

  • That would be really hard, if you moved a lot… and I feel like the older you get, the harder it is to make those really great friends. Not always the case, but it makes me feel so lucky to have had mine for so long. I've always believed in quality over quantity, for sure!

  • I love that! I know it's rare to have had the same friends for that long… we have just always managed to stay close. So grateful!

  • Our little group has been all over the place too- one of them was in Germany for years when her husband was stationed over there – they just moved to Denver, they have 3 kids, and I have yet to meet any of them! It's hard when you each get busy with your own lives… Skype and emails and texts and Facebook play an important role in those situations 🙂

  • Lady, you are the sweetest! They are the best, I cherish our time together always!

  • Oh my gosh, that's so cool! Wow! I was telling the two girls (they are cousins, actually!) on Saturday that I always wanted sisters but our bond has really become a sisterhood in its own.

  • Exactly! It's like no matter how much time has passed, you just pick off right were you ended. Thick and thin… so, so grateful.

  • I'm reading so many comments on here about others who have been friends with their girls for so long- how special!!! When I look at my group of girls, we're all SO different… but I love that about all of us, too.

  • Don't know what I'd ever do without them!

  • haha, they really are! 🙂

  • oh, SO refreshing! It was funny- on Sat night, we ate and drank so much and the three of us were still back home and in bed by 11pm. My, how times have changed – haha!

  • Yay for getting together with good girlfriends! 🙂 Food for the soul. 🙂

  • So great. I can totally relate to all of this. My friends…my lifelines…where would I be without them?

  • Food and drink for the soul! 😉 haha

  • i totally feel ya! i have friends all over the place, since i went to college out of state! i have a few close friends that i met at camp when we were all like 13/14…we're spread out over PA and DE, but get together every few months for dinner! its the best 🙂

  • Jessica Hughes

    Love love love this!!

  • thanks for stopping by, Jessica!! 🙂

  • It IS the best! And so important to keep that going.

  • Girl friends are so important and I cherish mine to dearly. It does suck that we don't all live in the same city anymore, but it's like we never parted when we do get together.

  • Exactly! That's exactly how it feels when I get together with mine. And as much as I dislike Facebook, honestly the only reason I've stayed on it is to keep up with their day to day/kids, etc 😉
