A Grateful Heart (+ week-long linkup!)

September 22, 2014

Today I am grateful for fall dates with my babe.

This past Saturday, I was a guest blogger on The Girl Who Loved to Write and listed five of my most favorite fall dates. The first one I mentioned wasn’t necessarily “fall-ish” (yes, that’s a word) but is to me because Christian and I officially started dating in the fall-time, so we have some annual traditions we still continue – even if it’s just sharing chips and salsa and upgraded margaritas (because you always upgrade, right Anne?) πŸ˜‰ Β Truth be told though, I prefer any date in the fall-time. Once I finally let go of summer, I am 100% pro-fall. It’s just so cozy! My favorite clothes to wear are the ones you wear when the weather gets cool and crisp- jeans, t-shirt, sweater, boots – it’s the little things, right?!
Having not seen my sweet husband in a little over two weeks, Christian declared yesterday as Sunday Funday and was. it. ever. I woke up to a bouquet of roses, or- as he called them “Sunday Funday Flowers” (we’re real official over here) and a hot cup of coffee. We then had lunch (because, you know, I woke up at like 11:30am) (yes, yes I did) at Lou Malnati’s which consisted of the best pizza in the land and some beers. So what do you do after you carb-load and consume a few Stellas? You take a nap. Because sleeping in until almost noon didn’t quite do it. So that’s what we did. We took a two hour nap and it was so fabulous. When we woke up, Christian mentioned that he wanted to watch a movie. My aunt had just let me borrow Pitch Perfect and, me not knowing what it was about, suggested that’s what we watch.
Let me tell you all something. If there’s anything that irritates me more than “nom nom” it’s A cappella groups, and songs like “Mickey You’re So Fine” and people who sing like Disney characters. It’s true. I mean that’s why I’m not a fan of Glee and still haven’t seen Frozen (#neverwill). So you can imagine the horror that swept over my soul within the first 3 seconds of this movie. I immediately grabbed for the remote to shut it off and that’s when Gail (Elizabeth Banks’ character) came on and said, “Oh yes. Nothing makes a woman feel more like a girl than a man who sings like a boy” and I died laughing. And so the movie continued. It was like a train wreck or something- you don’t want to watch because it’s just so bad, but you can’t help it- you have to look. Christian walked into the room and I immediately filled him in and warned him that he was sooooo gonna hate this movie and still- he agreed to give a try. We pretty much disliked the entire thing, and yet laughed through the entire thing. All throughout the movie, I was laughing so hard while I looked at Christian (who was also laughing), saying “I hate this movie so much!” – all in-between the tears of laughter. Then I thought- really, this is okay because I’m doing it #fortheblog. (Technically I wasn’t in the beginning but in order to share this with you and justify it all, it’s totally #fortheblog.)
While we may not have been 100% sold (solely due to the A cappella-ness of it all), Cleo was a fan. I’m serious. Cleo is in love with Benji Applebaum, and I mean that. We were watching the movie in bed, both of the babes sleeping at our feet. Cleo slept through the entire movie but when Benji came on for his solo at the very end?? She sat straight up to look at the tv and held her head, watching it, until his solo was over. It was HILARIOUS.
(Cleo asked me to include this clip for you all.)
After we watched the movie (I still can’t believe we made it through the whole thing), we went out for froyo (it’s Amy’s fault with all her froyo talk) and dare I say it was the perfect fall date with my babe. And for that- A cappella and all – I am grateful πŸ™‚

This is a lovely post, also dying at the fact you mentioned the NOMNOM bit again…I was cracking up! Sometimes it is nice to make a good thing from a bad situation..(e.g being the film) hah! Glad you had a great Fall date! πŸ™‚

  • Sound alike the perfect day to me…and yes, always upgrade!! I am so happy #fortheblog made an appearance today. It was my motto last night (and truth be told the night before. Last night was solely for picture purposes bc would you believe it I forgot to photograph Tuesday's post?)

  • Omg I'm laughing so hard over here. Pitch Perfect is one of my favorite movies, but I'm also that chorus nerd that gets excited when someone breaks out into random chords and I can join in. Hahaha. #fortheblog sounds like it was a success. I'm glad y'all had a good day yesterday.

  • That is so stinking cute! I love those type of movies lol!! Well, Disney mostly. When grown adults are singing, it kind of makes me awkward lol!

  • I honestly don't think I could stomach Pitch Perfect. Strange because I'm a huge fan of The Sound of Music. But that's a classic right?!….

Flowers!?!? You lucky ?! That is soooo sweet! The lost art of romance. *sigh*

Sooo, I'm grateful for loads of random things today. But I actually posted it all on Fri-yay. I master my headstand, so that's something to be happy about.

    Have a great Monday!

  • Who's responsible for this whole #fortheblog thing? Seriously cracking me up. So, so true. :o)

  • ashortblonde

I love that movie…but I can see why others wouldn't. πŸ˜‰ Sounds like the perfect reunion date, so glad you are together again! Two weeks is a long time!

  • Emily is responsible for #fortheblog! Lol!

  • So heart broke a little when you said you didn't like pitch perfect. Lol!!! I love that movie and is hilarious! A friend and I saw it in the theaters and about peed our pants laughing! Lol! Glad you are home with your husband..two weeks is a long time. Sounds like you had a great day! πŸ™‚

  • Oh my gosh your day sounds perfect!! I watched Pitch Perfect with M and we had a love/hate relationship with it – I loved it and he hated it lol. But to each their own πŸ˜‰ I hope you find yourself caught up before you expect it! XO

  • Sounds like a great day! I have seen Pitch Perfect and I remember laughing a lot throughout the movie. What a nice day to end the day with froyo, why resist such a treat. I hope you have a wonderful week πŸ™‚

  • Brilliant Emily!

  • hahaha…i've definitely seen that movie and (don't judge me), didn't hate it! i love cheesy disney-character singing! haha
sounds like an awesome date-day…sometimes the ones where you get to just totally do whatever you want (including lots of sleeping) are the best ones!

  • it was completely fitting that as i read this post, a photo of cookie dough oreos popped up on her sidebar πŸ™‚

  • Sounds like a perfect day to me! Lou's is my favorite of the "Chicago" pizza places, but Tim doesn't like it so I rarely get to have it! So Good. And now I want froyo. πŸ™‚

  • haha!! And of course I've been thinking about the movie all day today- maybe I'm turning!!!

  • I was laughing so hard over that, Anne! It's the perfect excuse. (Can't wait to see your post tomorrow!!!)

  • hahah πŸ˜‰

  • it all started with those darn Cookie Dough Oreos!!

  • Oh girl- I'd say MOST people love that movie! I think it's because I grew up with my mom playing A cappella groups constantly in the house, the car, etc. I just can't do them, haha!

  • haha!! That made me laugh out loud!

  • Oh you must read and watch Then use the term freely. It's quite liberating if I may say so myself.

  • omg SAME!!! The Sound of Music is one of my all time favorite movies and I could watch it over and over and never get sick of it. There's something about the modernness and pop culture-ness about all of the new "musicals" that I just cannot do. However, I *have* been thinking about the freaking movie all day today, so I don't know what that means.

    Happy Monday, V! πŸ™‚

  • Seriously- ALL of my friends love that movie, so I think I'm the odd one out here!

  • haha! Most people do, Faith πŸ™‚ I really think it's just me!!

  • EXACTLY!!!! It was the weirdest thing- we're like- we hate this movie and yet we laughed so hard we cried in certain parts.

    Happy Monday, friend!!! XO!

  • Froyo is always a good idea, I'm convinced πŸ˜‰ Happy Monday, Felecia!

  • lady, I would never judge! Literally everyone I've talked to LOVES that movie so I really just think it's me.

Yes, the sleep was GLORIOUS!!! πŸ™‚

  • Lou's is the best!! πŸ™‚ You'll just have to have a girl night there soon.

(Yeah… Amy's multiple posts/tweets about froyo totally got me addicted again. ha!)

  • Hahaha, oh my gosh, we hated that movie… I am totally baffled by its popularity–and now there's gonna be a sequel?? I haven't even seen Frozen either, but I think Pitch Perfect can't even be compared to Disney movies because it was so awful. But I'm so glad you guys had such an awesome day! Absolutely perfect after being apart for two weeks!! πŸ˜€

  • Sounds like a PERFECT Sunday. Love it all πŸ™‚ Thanks for hosting, sweet Emily!

  • For starters that picture is adorable of you and Christian! Also I've never seen pitch perfect and I thought I was the only one…now maybe I am. Lastly.. #neversaynever I love Frozen…it's a great movie…I'll sing it to you if you'd like?! I kid I kid!!

  • Your welcome!

  • Haha you guys are so adorable! One of me & my husband's favorite activities when we're totally out of options and/or plans is to purposely partake in something we KNOW we don't really like, and then make fun of it together. Is that horrible of us? Mayyyyyyyyyyybe, but at least we're horrible together! Nothing like making fun of a bad movie to put you on the same page with someone. πŸ™‚

  • haha! Well I'm so surprised to find someone else who isn't a fan of the pop musicals! We are not alone! πŸ˜‰

  • Thank you for this sweet note, lady!! XO

  • haha! Alright well I still think you should watch Pitch Perfect… especially if you liked Frozen. Kendra, you are the happiest and sweetest person- I would let you sing it to me, I would!

  • (I actually put fruit on mine this time.) (As well as sprinkles.)

  • haha!!! That is too funny!! We never plan for that kind of thing but seem to have participated in a lot of things we wouldn't normally like, but it all ends up fun because we're laughing by the end of it. You and your hubby sound like you have such a great time together! πŸ™‚

  • i always get chocolate with peanut buttery toppings. Best dinner(s) I've had in months!! πŸ˜‰

  • Meg Henning

totally love that photo of you two!!! made me laugh, y'all are precious

  • It was SO fabulous! πŸ™‚ Sometimes staying in bed is just what you have to do.

  • aw! ha! Thanks, lady! We like to dress up our straws when the occasion fits πŸ˜‰
