Lip balm & horseshoes (with a side of bourbon)

August 21, 2014
It’s been awhile since I’ve debuted my latest DIY project but I can assure you- I am working on it and hope to share it soon. Would you like a hint though? It involves old horseshoes and string. (I know, you have no idea.) Are you guys currently working on any projects?? I have a feeling this fall is going to be all about DIYs for me. I’ve always wanted to make my own lip balm/stain/gloss… clearly I’m still working out the details. Lip balm is kind of a “thing” for me, in that I have way too much of it and have never left a Walgreens or CVS without purchasing at least one. If you have ever made your own lip beauty product, you must tell me more!
Speaking of beauty tips… I am so excited to introduce you all to one of my current Soul Provider sponsors, Lindsay from the blog Bourbon, Lipstick & Stilettos! I have really enjoyed getting to know this sweet gal better the past month and she has quickly become one of my go-to babes for beauty tips and latest beauty products. (Not to mention, I’m so obsessed with her latest birthday gift(s) idea, I have become quite the regular on her Pinterest boards.)

Determined, perfectionist, stubborn, and independent.
I’d love to work from home, so any job that would allow me to do that would be a dream! I’d also love to work in the bourbon industry. Maybe a taste-tester?
I originally named my blog “The Princess and the Pea” but wanted something original and fun. Since the blog reflects who I am, I went with Bourbon, Lipstick, and Stilettos: three of my all-time favorite things!
I met most of my closest friends through my sorority. Those women continue to be my best friends to this day. However, I consider Jason (my boyfriend of over six years) to be my best friend. We actually met at work, though we’ve thankfully both moved on career-wise!
When I was growing up, my parents always told me: “If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.” I hated hearing that, but it’s on my mind constantly now. I am much more selective about who I allow in my life. Drama and negativity in relationships will weigh you down.
Jason and my family inspire me to be a better person and inspire me to love. I want to emulate their actions. I also get inspiration from women I’ve met in the blogging community. They challenge me to work harder and smarter. I’m in awe of the work of these women! Blogging is not easy!
I feel beautiful when I’m dressed up for a night out with Jason, but lately I’ve felt beautiful after a tough workout. Strong is beautiful!

my only DIY was the pool noodle bed rail for my youngest. I'd love to try lip balm though! I go through that stuff like crazy.

  • I also have a full list of fall DIY!! I can't wait to tackle them! and about the homemade lip products..I have never done it but watched my cousin make homemade lipstick! She used a bunch of stuff but the coloring was melted crayons! It felt so good on your lips!

  • oh wow!! I've never heard of using crayons but I guess that would work!!

  • I do too! I would think it would be cheaper for me to just make a huge batch. It's on the list!

  • I know right? when started I thought she had lost her mind but it ended up being pretty cool!!

  • Ooo I can't wait to see this DIY! It sounds so rustic and so up my alley lol!

  • I love the advice she gave! I'm a firm believer that you should always be careful who you hang out around — I also like the phrase "you are who you surround yourself with" although I don't agree with it 100%.

  • I just went to Michaels to purchase more supplies! Hope to have it completed and up next month?!

  • Same! I'd never heard her phrase before but it's very true.

  • I'm looking forward to your DIY reveal — especially since it involves horseshoes 🙂 I make my own lip balms / salves + it's so, so easy. I can send you the recipe I use if you're interested!
