Some of you may have noticed something different about me in last week’s post. The truth is, I have needed to wear eyeglasses for quite some time now. Like, how about since high school? I actually did have glasses (and wore them), until they broke my freshman year of college and I wasn’t about to wear them in public, what with only one “arm”, the correct term being: temple. (Alright, so maybe I did try to secretly wear them while on a date at a movie theatre, only to catch the guy staring at me as he whispered, “What’s wrong with your glasses?” And it wasn’t in a cute way, you know? It was more like, You’re weird.) So after that, I stopped wearing them and never wore glasses again.
I am nearsighted, which means often times people think I’m glaring at them when in reality, I’m just squinting in hopes of actually seeing what I’m looking at if it’s more than 20 feet away. (This also means Christian is terrified to ride with me in the car at nighttime. I mean, how dramatic.) 😉 I know what you’re thinking- Emily, you’re 30 years old. Why don’t you just go to the eye doctor and get new glasses? And the answer would be, because I haven’t wanted to wear glasses. (Yeah, I’m like a 5 year old having a tantrum right now.) I’ve looked at different styles over the years but just have never found a pair that look like “me.”
I’d recently said to Christian that perhaps it was time I ‘bite the bullet’ and make an appointment with an eye doctor- but that I’d do it when we moved. So when Firmoo reached out to me and asked if I might like to review a pair of glasses, literally THE DAY AFTER we moved, I took it as a sign 😉 Their tag line is “Vision & Fashion the Frugal Way” which appealed to me since I like nice things but am usually
stingy conservative with my money. I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe Firmoo had a pair I might like, so I clicked on their site and immediately got “into” the search process.
What I loved about the search process was not only could I pick the material, color, and shape – but for someone like me who maybe wasn’t sure about all of that, I could pick a face-type using the Try On View to see what the glasses would look like on an actual human being. I clicked through quite a few and was so excited to find a pair that finally, might just look like Emily glasses. What’s more is that I was even able upload my own photo to see what the glasses might (kind of) look like on my own face. (Very “teacher-esque,” no?)
I went ahead and ordered non-prescription glasses with the thought that if I loved the frames, I could take them with me to my new eye doctor. The ordering process was super easy and I received my glasses 18 days later. This actually felt a bit delayed to me, considering I’d ordered non prescription glasses (and my receipt said they’d send the frames within 2 to 3 days). While receiving the glasses more than 2 weeks later wasn’t a huge deal to me (because I didn’t need them to see), I could see how this might be a problem if you’re ordering prescription glasses and need them asap. (My receipt mentioned that if you order regular prescription glasses, they’ll be delivered in about 2 weeks, FYI, and I’ve read other Firmoo reviews where the person did get them on time.) Otherwise though, I was happy with the ordering process.
As for the actual glasses, they were worth the wait – I absolutely love them. I put them on and looked in the mirror and felt like, yes. These are Emily glasses.
As for the fit of the glasses, they fit as well as plastic glasses that haven’t been professionally sized for my face would fit- pretty well. They are just a tad snug around the temples but this doesn’t concern me since I’ll be going to the eye doctor soon anyway and know that he/she can heat and bend them to fit my face. I’m actually looking forward to going to the eye doctor now, and have already picked out a second pair from Firmoo (the purple ones!), you know- for when I’m feelin’ funky 😉
So what about you? Has anyone else tried Firmoo? Anyone else procrastinating to get glasses? I’ll give you some good news. 1.) It’s not as painful as you think it’s going to be. It’s actually fun, and 2.) YOU can get a pair of FREE eyeglasses too, as Firmoo is offering first time, new customers, their first pair of glasses free. *Air five*
