My Style: Eyeglasses

January 13, 2015
Some of you may have noticed something different about me in last week’s post. The truth is, I have needed to wear eyeglasses for quite some time now. Like, how about since high school? I actually did have glasses (and wore them), until they broke my freshman year of college and I wasn’t about to wear them in public, what with only one “arm”, the correct term being: temple. (Alright, so maybe I did try to secretly wear them while on a date at a movie theatre, only to catch the guy staring at me as he whispered, “What’s wrong with your glasses?” And it wasn’t in a cute way, you know? It was more like, You’re weird.) So after that, I stopped wearing them and never wore glasses again.

I am nearsighted, which means often times people think I’m glaring at them when in reality, I’m just squinting in hopes of actually seeing what I’m looking at if it’s more than 20 feet away. (This also means Christian is terrified to ride with me in the car at nighttime. I mean, how dramatic.) πŸ˜‰ I know what you’re thinking- Emily, you’re 30 years old. Why don’t you just go to the eye doctor and get new glasses? And the answer would be, because I haven’t wanted to wear glasses. (Yeah, I’m like a 5 year old having a tantrum right now.) I’ve looked at different styles over the years but just have never found a pair that look like “me.”
I’d recently said to Christian that perhaps it was time I ‘bite the bullet’ and make an appointment with an eye doctor- but that I’d do it when we moved. So when Firmoo reached out to me and asked if I might like to review a pair of glasses, literally THE DAY AFTER we moved, I took it as a sign πŸ˜‰ Their tag line is “Vision & Fashion the Frugal Way” which appealed to me since I like nice things but am usually stingy conservative with my money. I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe Firmoo had a pair I might like, so I clicked on their site and immediately got “into” the search process.
What I loved about the search process was not only could I pick the material, color, and shape – but for someone like me who maybe wasn’t sure about all of that, I could pick a face-type using the Try On View to see what the glasses would look like on an actual human being. I clicked through quite a few and was so excited to find a pair that finally, might just look like Emily glasses. What’s more is that I was even able upload my own photo to see what the glasses might (kind of) look like on my own face. (Very “teacher-esque,” no?)

I went ahead and ordered non-prescription glasses with the thought that if I loved the frames, I could take them with me to my new eye doctor. The ordering process was super easy and I received my glasses 18 days later. This actually felt a bit delayed to me, considering I’d ordered non prescription glasses (and my receipt said they’d send the frames within 2 to 3 days). While receiving the glasses more than 2 weeks later wasn’t a huge deal to me (because I didn’t need them to see), I could see how this might be a problem if you’re ordering prescription glasses and need them asap.  (My receipt mentioned that if you order regular prescription glasses, they’ll be delivered in about 2 weeks, FYI, and I’ve read other Firmoo reviews where the person did get them on time.) Otherwise though, I was happy with the ordering process.
As for the actual glasses, they were worth the wait – I absolutely love them. I put them on and looked in the mirror and felt like, yes. These are Emily glasses.

As for the fit of the glasses, they fit as well as plastic glasses that haven’t been professionally sized for my face would fit- pretty well. They are just a tad snug around the temples but this doesn’t concern me since I’ll be going to the eye doctor soon anyway and know that he/she can heat and bend them to fit my face. I’m actually looking forward to going to the eye doctor now, and have already picked out a second pair from Firmoo (the purple ones!), you know- for when I’m feelin’ funky πŸ˜‰

So what about you? Has anyone else tried Firmoo? Anyone else procrastinating to get glasses? I’ll give you some good news. 1.) It’s not as painful as you think it’s going to be. It’s actually fun, and 2.) YOU can get a pair of FREE eyeglasses too, as Firmoo is offering first time, new customers, their first pair of glasses free. *Air five*

Wow wish I had seen this before I dropped $200 on my new specks, and that is after insurance. I will remember then for the future. It looks like the have cute frames at a reasonable price which is a huge bonus!

  • They look great!

  • Great choice! They look really good on you πŸ˜‰ I went to the eye doctor last year and needed a small prescription and the frames that I kept choosing were all so expensive even with insurance so I held off. I did order prescription firmoo glasses and I can't wait to receive them πŸ˜‰

  • I think they look really great on you. And I was also a big procrastinator when it came to getting my glasses. I also need them since high school, but lost my original pair and never decided to get another pair. lol! I needed them to see distances. Firmoo contacted me too and I LOVED the pair they sent me.

  • These look amazing on you!

  • Wow. You are a beauty. Love the glasses…you are right. They are Emily glasses. perfect on you. It's weird yours took awhile. Mine did not take that long and they were prescription glasses.

  • Katie @ A Beautiful Little Adv

Hot!! Love those frames on you. I've been procrastinating since..ummm I think since I was around 24 so 7 years ago! My lenses are so out of date but I only wear my glasses when I'm sick or late at night, contacts all the other times. But you're making me reconsider updating!

  • Thanks, Jae! I really love them! (hahah… yes. I love the B-) haha!)

  • aw!! You should try out Firmoo!! Get yourself a free pair! πŸ™‚

  • oh dang, girl! Yeah, check them out next time you're looking for new ones, or if you need a backup pair. (Especially when you can get the first pair free!)

  • Thanks, Llinos! I'm sure I'll get used to wearing them, especially if it means I'll be able to see πŸ˜‰

  • oh good!! I'm looking forward to checking out your review and to see which ones you choose! (I think maybe the 18 days had to do with people getting back from the holidays, etc. Oh well!) πŸ™‚

  • Thank you, Christine!! Yes, I love the case too.

  • Thanks, lady! I've thought about contacts but am too afraid of them still… maybe one of these days πŸ˜‰

  • You have me blushing over here. πŸ˜‰

  • Fashion glasses are so much fun. I need to stalk your pictures now to see which ones you got!

  • You are gorgeous! Eye glasses totally suit you. I have glasses and also waited a long time to get them. Honestly, I am not a big fan of glasses, but I do love seeing so I had to compromise. I may get contacts this year. πŸ™‚

  • Anne, you sure know how to make my day! Thank you. My mom emailed me this morning and agreed that they are "emily" glasses, so it must be true haha. (I know! Kenji's glasses weren't delayed either! It's probably just our weird Post Office.) (By the way- did I miss your Firmoo post?!?!)

  • haha!! Thanks, Katie! You should definitely check them out, especially since the first pair is free! πŸ™‚

  • I have thought about that too… just one more fear about going to the eye dr. haha! Alright, well how about you find us an eye dr and then when you're with him/her, just ask the hypothetical question, "What if someone brought you their own frames?" and then let me know what they say.

  • So sweet, thank you Tami!! πŸ™‚ I don't know if I could wear glasses full time, only because I haven't worn them in so long. But at least with these and the fact that their cute, definitely makes me want to wear them more.

  • YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. And I love Firmoo, even if I haven't ordered from them yet… oops

  • I love that look! I need glasses too, and I'm nearsighted, and I can't see at night, and I just don't wanna. LOL! But after reading about this, I'm really rethinking it. PS – kind of sort of laughed at your date story lol!

  • Girl, you are gorgeous! And I really ought to take advantage of this – my glasses are all scratched up because I am constantly dropping them. I need to visit the eye doctor anyway – I have a feeling my prescription is about to get stronger. :/

  • You look so darn cute in glasses!! I love them!! πŸ˜‰

  • I did do one awhile ago. πŸ™‚

  • Dang! I think I missed it?! I searched in the search box for your post but it wouldn't pull it up. I want to see them! (and possibly, again… my short term memory is SO bad)

  • These look absolutely fantastic on you!! I'm glad you enjoyed them. I received my glasses crazy fast. I wonder if it was time of year type thing?

  • These look SO great on you!! I hate buying frames because I have a pretty small head, so children's frames fit around it better but the lens portion is so small it's like wearing bifocals. :/ what's a girl to do ha!
Ps I love that you're going for the purple ones too, amazing!! They rock!

  • Emily

    They look lovely on you!

  • I LOVE them! I think I picked the same ones you did lol. I can't wait to get mine.

  • Those look SO good on you! I finally bought some prescription sunglasses and got them from Frimoo. They took forever to get prepared/shipped, but totally worth it.

  • Ohh I love them! so cute on you!

  • So cute!! And that case is awesome!

  • MADE MY DAY. πŸ™‚ (hahah…. I can't wait to see which ones you end up getting! You look so great in glasses – I think you could really funk it up, lady!)

  • That's been my problem too, Kel! Just get a pair! And better yet, a FREE pair! πŸ™‚

  • thanks, Kelly πŸ™‚ You're not gonna get that glasses tie thingy you wear around your neck to keep the glasses from falling are you? I'd have to take you down… πŸ˜‰ haha

  • Thanks, lady! πŸ™‚ I love them too!!

  • I think it was totally a fluke. I'm still going to continue to order from them… hopefully no delay next time!

  • I wish I was more adventurous!

  • Because I know you can use a good laugh at the giant sized photo of me. Beware…objects in mirror are closer than they appear. πŸ˜‰ Yikes! http://www.lovethehereandnow.com/2014/12/perfect-vision.html

  • Those glasses look so cute on you! You definitely shouldn't worry about wearing them in future

  • chall1018

Those are perfect for you! Definitely Emily glasses. I'm waiting on my Firmoo order, too. I ordered ones very similar to yours, if not the same ones. It says my order left on the 2nd, but I haven't gotten them yet. Hopefully soon! I'm excited now that I have seen yours!!!

  • haha, aw! (Well I must have a big head because most frames are always a bit tight on the sides when I first try them on. Cheers to oddly sized heads?!) (I'll drink to anything, basically. haha)

  • nooooo!!! Were yours FROM Firmoo?!

  • Thanks, Emily! πŸ™‚

  • yay! can't wait for you to get them either!

  • YES, I am definitely going to get sunglasses in the near future. Which ones did you get?!

  • Thanks, Trish! πŸ™‚

  • Isn't it?! I loved it too πŸ™‚

  • haha, thanks Vicky πŸ™‚

  • πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So weird that they still haven't arrived… sounds like you're in the same boat I was. I'm telling you though, it was worth waiting awhile. Can't wait to see yours!

  • i have always wanted to have to wear glasses. seriously, i know that's weird. but the grass is always greener. i love the ones you chose, a.dor.a.ble. and you are gorgeous, my friend.

  • Thanks, Amy πŸ™‚ And that's not weird. When I was younger, I really wanted a retainer. I would make them out of paperclips and walk around the house saying, "Oh, I can't chew gum right now. I have a retainer." (I was such a weird kid haha)

  • I got these: http://www.firmoo.com/prescription-sunglasses-p-2519.html
They were a great deal. I feel so old when I have to switch my glasses when I get out of a car. Parking garages are a nightmare hahaha! But, I just don't like to wear my contacts anymore, so it's worth it. They charged a little extra bc the lenses were large and my pupil distance was too close for them, and even so, they were half the price (or less) than BonLook and Warby Parker, where we usually get our glasses!
Another interesting thing was that they didn't verify my Rx, like the other companies. I know it's based on state laws, if they have to verify or not, but SC requires it, so I was surprised.

  • ashley

Love those glasses that you picked! & your gorgeous by the way! So jealous! πŸ˜›

  • oooh I really like those! I did not know most companies have to verify your Rx! I would think that would definitely slow the process.

  • aw! Thank you, Ashley! πŸ™‚
