My Style: Skincare, Part Two

June 6, 2015
I have two big rules when it comes to caring for my skin: WEAR SUNSCREEN DAILY and WASH OFF MAKEUP BEFORE BED. In addition to those two things though, it’s really been about understanding my skin and sticking to a routine. I have found that the more I mess with my skin, the worse it gets. The more products I use or “test” (multiple face washes, cleanser, brightening, moisturizer, etc. etc. etc.), the more my face just totally freaks out. I do have a few products I swear by though so today I thought I’d share those with you.

*This is not a sponsored post and there are no affiliate links in this post – these are just products I love and wanted to share!

Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief, gel-creme – This is the BEST face moisture I’ve ever used. I apply it to my entire face, as well as my neck, every morning after I’ve rinsed my face. This moisturizer can be used over your makeup too, which is what my mom does sometimes mid-day if her face feels tight or dry. The price is a bit higher, at $52 for a 2.5 oz. jar but for me, it’s absolutely worth it and lasts me quite awhile. (I just wish this stuff was SPF!)

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 – So far, this has been my favorite moisturizer that also has enough SPF. I purchase mine from Target and it’s about $12.

Yes to Cucumbers Gentle Milk Cleanser – I use this every* night with my Clarisonic. This is the only face wash I’ve found that truly cleans my face and isn’t too harsh on my skin. It’s about $9 for a bottle.

*Most nights I’m super lazy and too tired to wash my face. This is where Night-Time Soothing Makeup Remover Towelettes come in- I keep these on my nightstand and can literally wash my face from bed. (I told you. Lazy.) You can find these for $3.48 at Walmart. Not bad, right?!

RoC Retinol Correxion MAX, Wrinkle Resurfacing System – I am seriously obsessed with this stuff, you guys. This is literally the ONLY wrinkle reducing product I use and swear by for my skin. It comes in a set, #1 bottle and #2 bottle. The #1 is an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment and the #2 is a Resurfacing Serum (which makes my skin super, super smooth).

I use both #1 and #2 about 3 days a week, applying both of them to my entire face, and then I will use them on only target spots (forehead and near eyes) for the other 4 days of the week. You can actually find this at quite a few places besides the RoC website: Ulta, Walgreens, CVS, Target, Walmart and believe it or not I’ve also found it at Costco – for around $30.

If your skin is super sensitive to Retinol, or if you just want to give a product containing Retinol a try, you might want to try RoC’s Retinol Correxion Sensitive Night Cream.

(And just another reminder, products containing Retinol should only be used at nighttime, never during the day!)

Burt’s Bees Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme (say that three times fast). I actually use this stuff on my lips before I go to bed! I don’t like the Burt’s Bees lip balm because it feels too heavy/waxy. I’d accidentally applied the hand creme to my lips one time, without realizing it was actual hand creme, and woke up the next morning with super soft lips. I keep a jar of this stuff in my nightstand and dab just a teeny tiny bit of it on before I go to sleep. I buy it at Target for $8. (And it smells AMAZING.)
Alright, I want to hear from you now.
Have you tried any of the products I’ve listed above?
EG note: While a lot of these things can be found on Amazon, I strongly suggest to steer clear and just buy them from the company’s websites or from trusted stores. Twice now I’ve bought things from Amazon, because it was cheaper, and I swear to you the product was not legit (also confirmed by reviews). Always buy from a trusted source!

  • Ahh yes, sensitive skin. I feel your pain there. The older I get, the more new products I try in an effort to fight the aging battle. But my skin always freaks out on me. Adult acne…it's a really challenge. :o(

Love Burt's Bees. I've been considering the Aveeno lotion for ages. Might just have to give it a try now!

  • Us fair faced friends must stick together. I am like you and reluctant to try new things because my skin freaks out and it is soooo not worth it. I am going to try the roc retinol for sure. You didn't say how much you love your clarisonic, but I know you must! I do…it is my can't live without skin thing. I can only hope my skin will look like yours after I copy your list pretty lady!

  • I've started using RoC's Retinol Correction Sensitive Eye Cream at night for the past few months… I feel like I'm at the point in my life where I should start doing things to prevent wrinkles, etc but am kind of lost as to which products are best for someone my age (and not super expensive). I'm definitely going to check out the Correction MAX product; sounds right up my alley!

  • I love the Burts Bees foot lotion, it's peppermint and invigorates my tired feet at the end of the day 🙂 I have the aveeno lotion in my window shopping cart online at target ….guess I should order it! 🙂

  • Let me know what you think of the Aveeno – I only recently (in the last 5 months) tried it and don't know why it took me so long, I really love it for my face.

  • With the RoC, Kim, I've found that the key is consistency – it took about a month for me to really see results (and obviously it doesn't totally get rid of the wrinkles but I've definitely noticed a difference)

Girl, YES! I love my clarisonic!! My mom got it for me quite awhile ago (so fortunately I did not have to buy it- they are not cheap) but I love it.

  • Yes, try the MAX, Alyssa. I was just noting to Kim below that it may take a bit for you to notice a difference (it took about a month for me to notice a difference with the wrinkles, although the smoothness of my skin was immediate – that bottle #2 is crazy awesome. Make sure you really rub it in though, and that the #1 has soaked into your skin before applying the #2.)

  • oooh! I haven't tried the Burts foot lotion – I will have to get it! I love the aveeno lotion- my makeup goes over it so nicely, which I've found is not the case with most other SPF face lotions.

  • I'm a big fan of the YES products too 🙂 Let me know what you think!!

I might check that Aveeno moisturizer with SPF for when I run out of my Neutrogena's. I have about four different moisturizers, but none of them has SPF. BUMMER.

  • I love the "Yes to Carrots" line, I want to try the Cucumber wash!!

  • I know! I wish more of them had it in there!

  • I love it too. I only just tried the Cucumber (a few months ago) and really like it.
