December 31, 2014
This is most likely a Currently post, only way more random and definitely not as organized. And there are no pictures to go along with these thoughts. Basically, this is me up at 3AM with random things on my mind and what better place to share them than here with all my stalkers, right? 😉 (Totally kidding.) (Hey, you know who you are.)
Well, we’re home. Like, in Nashville home. For longer than just a few days. We’re pretty much here for good now (at least until our next road trip next month) and it feels really nice. Christmas is over and while I am finding both happiness and disappointment over the peace and quiet now, I know I’ll soon be breathing in the routine of it all. And I like routine. I am ready to explore this new place. What I really need to do is get good and lost. I’ve always said that you can really get a feel of a new place when you’re lost. (But lost in the daytime with a car and hot cup of coffee and favorite tunes blasting and fully charged phone… so it’s like a safe kind of lost.) (Mom, seriously. Don’t worry. I’m fine.)
I am in need of a new desk for my office, since the only thing that was destroyed in our move was my desk. (Such a bummer aaaaaand a complete blessing, yes?!) 😉 Do you guys have a home office desk you love? Where did you get it from? Quite a few of you mentioned IKEA, which is definitely being considered, although I do have my eye on one from West Elm.
Also, Cleo hates this place. Reason I’m up at 3AM? Cleo meows from about 1AM-7AM so we’re only halfway through this gloriousness right now. I’m really hoping she calms down in the next few days and realizes how lucky she is to have windows and trees to look at and a large space to run around and meow in, like she’s doing right now. It’s okay though. Yesterday I watched Frozen for the first time… just picture me crying at 3:30am as I sing Let It Go in a quiet whisper.
We have so much food in our house and it’s weird. We never really cooked in Chicago, partly because we lived so close to so many restaurants and mostly because we both love for our food to be served to us by other people. (I’m serious, we do.) Well Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore because restaurants and coffee shops are no longer literally outside our door…. instead they are literally a 15-20 minute drive away. This is a good thing though, it is. We went to Costco and bought so much food and condiments – you would have thought we were stocking up for the apocalypse. Who needs 50 gallons of Ketchup? Apparently we do. I now have a spacious, functioning, beautiful kitchen to create horrible meals so we’re all really excited over here. Seriously, anyone want to come give me cooking lessons? I am a fabulous baker but Christian keeps telling me we can’t live on Banana Bread (really? Because I totally can.) Practice makes perfect, I hear, so I do plan on bringing back the Eat | Drink series. I may even Vlog some of my cooking adventures??! (#fortheblog)

It’s NYE, guys!!! How is everyone celebrating?! Christian and I will be having our first date in our new city and he’s surprising me with the restaurant. Originally he asked me if I wanted to do an early dinner and I basically gave him a look like ARE YOU SERIOUS WE’RE NOT 70. Plus, the earlier the dinner, the more likely it is that I end up in bed by 9pm. He ended up making a reservation for 7p, and I suggested we grab some champagne to toast with at home for midnight – he gave a chuckle and responded with, “Em. When was the last time we actually made it to midnight?” So in other words- if I make it up until 10:30p I’ll be proud of myself.

I’m linking up today with my sweet friend, Anne from Love the Here & Now for Wednesday Wishes. I wish you all a fabulous celebration to close 2014 and an even better celebration to ring in 2015. I feel good, good things coming this next year….  🙂 XO!

  • hahaha you sound like me! I'm such a lightweight. I am almost always in bed by 10-10:30 at the latest! This year we actually have a babysitter for New Year's but I'm not even sure if I'll even be able to stay awake that long….especially since my hubby kept me up all night with his snoring…yeesh!

  • Lindsay

I can't wait to read about your Nashville and cooking adventures! I'm still learning, too. I need lots of practice. Hope you guys have a fabulous evening and Happy New Year!

  • If you teach me the ways of baking I will happily teach you to cook. Ah, who am I kidding- I'll teach you to cook even if you don't teach me to bake. (betty crocker I am not!) hahaha. I hope you and Christian have an amazing new years in your NEW HOME! really sorry to hear about Celo though. I hope she figures it out soon, too. For your sake of sleep!! yikes! ps: do you wanna build a snowman? 😉 happy new years sweet friend!

  • Happy New Year! Can't wait to hear more about how you're settling in! I hope Cleo chills soon haha

  • I had to laugh at the food thing because I'm the exact opposite. I was in a small town where I had to cook b/c everywhere was a drive and I was like, "Yeah…I'm SO not going out and driving that far" but now we're in the middle of Atlanta and there are dozens upon dozens upon dozens (like 60+) restaurants, bars and coffee shops within a 10 block radius. Now I don't want to cook. I'd rather have my food served to me. 🙂

Happy New Year! I'm glad you are settling (and cooking) in your new home, well all of you but Cleo…and Practice does make for perfect with cooking. I hardly cooked at all before I moved in with Ryan…and boy can that man eat…you just try and fail sometimes and figure out what works. I hope you have a nice time celebrating tonight!

  • Suheiry Feliciano/

I hope you have a lovely evening and a happy new year in your new home!

  • I'll be home as well…but friends are coming over to hang out. It should be fun…as we have lots of wine and no food! I'll let you know how that turns out tomorrow. 🙂 Enjoy your night. xo

  • I love to cook, but I hate to clean up.
Also, 50 gallons of ketchup are totally necessary.
Happy New Year love! Hope you have a wonderful evening!

  • Oh Em, there are tons of easy meals on Pinterest! You can do this! I believe in you!

  • I will totally come cook with you! 🙂 I'm a better baker too but I forced myself to learn how to cook a few things, and sometimes I actually enjoy it ha.
I am feeling exactly the same about being in our house – ever so slight disappointment about the holidays, our trip, etc all being over but SO looking forward to developing a routine again. Especially about getting out and about with Bug, and with a schedule for blogging. I've been all over the place the last few weeks with when I write and how and where and I'm dying to get back into a routine with it all!
Oh and Cleo just needs a couple days to adjust – when I dragged my cats across to London from NYC, they were absolutely mental for nearly a week, meowing at the walls at all hours of the night. They got there in the end and started loving the place! Change is hard for all living creatures!!
Wishing you a fabulous New Year's – here's to an awesome 2015 for us all! 🙂 XO

  • You can totally live on banana bread!!! You'll soon get the hang of it all. I am always googling recipes and they almost always turn out well 🙂

  • Cooking? Yikes! I'd survive on banana bread too! But you? You can do this…I know you….you got this!! I'd love a return of the Eat | Drink series (yes VLOG!) Maybe you can teach me a thing or two.

  • Liz

So cute to read this!! I love banana bread. L.o.v.e. it. Moving can present challenges, no matter where you go, or if you have family hear or far. I can't wait to read more about your adventures in Nashville, and I definitely hope you get a new desk!! xo

  • haha!! Julie- check out the 'Lectro Fan. Christian doesn't snore but he can't sleep in complete silence so he used to keep a fan on in our bedroom, which I was SO not a fan of (pun not intended) because it would dry everything out so badly. I just got him this 'Lectro Fan for Christmas (it's a noise maker) and he loves it, and I don't mind the noise either.

  • I can't wait to read about my cooking adventures too!! 😉 haha. Happy New Year!

  • Hey, I'd totally take you up on that!! Would you send me a few of your fave recipes?! I'll try them out! 🙂 (They have to be vegetarian though) 😉 Cleo is finally calming down, thank GOD!

  • Cleo is learning to chill, because I have been praying and pleading to God haha! (But seriously, I have.)

  • So funny!! I love that you're getting that experience now 🙂

  • Thank you for the encouragement, Katie!! 🙂 It does help!

  • Thanks so much, Suheiry!! Happy New Year! 🙂

  • Hope you had fun last night, Tami! Can't wait to hear how it all went! 🙂

  • With cooking, I feel like it takes me hours to make it and only seconds for people to eat it, which makes me not want to cook. Is that bad? haha! 🙂 Happy New Year, sweet friend!

  • Thank you!!!! I believe! I believe!

  • I'm a light sleeper too. I prefer nature sounds but for fan or white noise sounds, this one I got X is awesome.

  • Ah good I'm glad she's settling in – she will probably love watching Oooj play in the backyard ha! (Sadly no, the cats were from my previous relationship so I no longer have them. When Bug is a little older we'll adopt a dog maybe…!)

  • Vivian

Love your random thoughts! They always keep me laughing. Thanks for sharing them, and Happy New Year (I know its now 3 days in but whatever), warm wishes anyway!

  • I'm so glad someone is laughing with me! 😉 Happy New Year, lady! I think the celebration continues way past the 3 day mark, so you're good! XO 🙂

  • I'm really late reading this since I'm just now catching up on my blog reading but….I just bought a new desk too and I LOVE it. It's from World Market and I got it for a great price. I think I paid $149 for it in the sales. If you still need suggestions:

  • Yes!! 🙂 That's the one I ended up getting! It arrived last week. Great minds think alike 😉

  • That's CRAZY! Ha!

    I love this desk. :o)

  • LOVE!! 🙂 (And with sweet Chewie nearby, aw!)

October 1, 2014
Ohhhhh, loves. Let me just tell you something. Today, I’m SO excited to finally and officially introduce you to Melissa from The Rambling Llama! This poor girl has had quite the time making this happen on here, and by that I mean BECAUSE OF ME. Her Vlog was supposed to go live at the beginning of this month, while I was staying in Indiana at my parents house, but you all remember the internet fiasco, or rather- the NO-internet fiasco. Turns out Starbucks’ internet couldn’t handle the awesomeness of Melissa’s Vlog and just straight up wouldn’t upload it onto Vimeo. And so, she so sweetly agreed that the only thing we could do was postpone her Vlog a few weeks…. which was supposed to be YESTERDAY. I mean clearly I cannot multitask one hoo-nanny (is that a southern thing? No, really, where is that from? Did I just make that up?) but anyway- TODAY IS THE DAY! WHATTUP, MELISSA!!!!

I will admit, editing Melissa’s video was challenging and hilariously sweet all at the same time because her daughter, Ainsley, was frequently coming into the room to get her momma’s attention – it was so cute! Melissa has been one of those blogging friends who has turned into that friend that you randomly exchange text messages with throughout the week, often times hilarious ones. Do you know what I mean? And through emails, texts, tweets, and even this video, you just get the sense right off the bat that she is real, and she’s sweet, and she’s loyal, not to mention funny – basically all of the things you’d want in a girl friend, am I right?

Some things I did not know until watching her video… Melissa’s birthday just happens to fall on my most favorite day of the year, and learning of the things she’s learned since becoming a mom was especially endearing. If you don’t have the chance to watch this during your workday, be sure to come back by tonight! 🙂    Melissa, thank you so much for sharing with us today!

Ways to follow The Rambling Llama:

Melissa has just started to take sponsors of her own (yay!) so I encourage you to check that out and consider supporting her and her blog.
