grateful heart monday

Sunshine for the Soul.

February 1, 2016

sunshine EG

Happy Monday, all! Did the temps warm up for any of you this weekend?? Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous: sunny, a cool breeze, and 70 degrees. (Hard to believe that only one week ago I was wearing The Quilt and traipsing through feet of snow!) I think just about every window in our house was open over the weekend and the fresh air did miraculous things for my soul. I sat in our family room for 2 hours on Sunday, not watching TV, not surfing the web, just sitting and petting Oooj and feeling the warmth soak into my skin. I’ve never been so boring… it was perfect 🙂

Today I am grateful for the beautiful weather weekend we had, and for the sunshine, but I am also grateful for friends who pray for each other. Good friends provide so much for our hearts: laughter, comfort, entertainment, companionship, honesty, love, and so much more but I’m especially feeling so thankful for friends who take the time to pray for me, tell me they’re praying for me, and entrust me with their own private prayer requests. What an honor to pray for a friend! I would love to encourage you to reach out to one of your friends today and ask how you can pray for them. Please note: this is different than asking them, “What can I do for you today?” 😉 Instead ask them, “How can I pray for you today?”

Being able to pray for my friends provides instant sunshine for my soul – and it’s the kind of light that lasts for much longer than a sunny day.

I hope you all find some version of sunshine today, whether it’s actual sunshine, your favorite coffee drink, or a sweet moment with a good, good friend.

  • This makes my heart smile this morning. When the sunshine shines through the windows, I’m like our dogs, I lay on the floor with them and bask in it. I know understand why they do it all the time, it warms not only the body, but the soul. Thanks for another grateful Monday. A great way to begin the week.

    • Yes! Oooj & Cleo are the first ones to find the rays of sunshine on the floor each day 🙂 I have never gotten down there with them but I think I need to next time.

  • It was an absolutely amazing weather weekend – we kept saying how it felt like March. I was sitting at my kitchen table and took a photo of the sun coming through the windows as it was setting. It was a gift. Yes, knowing others are praying for you is simply one of the most wonderful things in the world. Wishing you a great week.

    • Gosh, if this is what March is like in the south I am A-ok with that! (In Chicago, spring temps didn’t really hit until mid-May.) Hope you are having a great week, Sheryl!

  • Okay what is the deal with this weather? I’m not complaining but I’m very confused. It was 65 here over the weekend….and we’re expecting snow next week? WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING

  • I love quiet afternoon like that! I’m sure Oooj had a really good time, too!! We had 40 and 50 degree weather in Ohio so we spent lots of time walking the dogs and being outside!

    • It’s so funny because I always think of you and your puppies each time I take Oooj for a walk 🙂

  • There’s nothing quite like fresh air to pull us out of the winter blues. There’s also nothing like prayer to give us peace. I know I feel an added sense of comfort when I know people are praying for me!

  • The first day of warm weather after it’s been so cold always makes me so happy! And friends who pray for each other are everything good in the world!

  • It was a gloriously warm weekend here in Florida! Prayers for friends is so so important. I think I’ve mentioned this to you before but many times I’ll just stop what I’m doing to pray with and over that friend. It’s so encouraging!

    • I love so much that you do that, Kel. My mom has always done that and it’s encouraged me to do the same in my adult years 🙂

  • You always manage to cheer me up.

  • Thanks for such a ray (pun totally intended) of positive thoughts to start off our week! You had my ideal weekend of doing absolutely nothing. To be able to sit in silence and just bask in the sun is absolute perfection for me too, and I intend to have some of it soon enough (it’s been a busy couple weeks here). Thanks for hosting us today! Have a great rest of your week!

    • Girl I LOVE puns, thank you for that. I hope you found some time to do absolutely nothing too! 🙂

  • Temps actually got COLDER here over the weekend (what the heck, San Diego?) But I’m always grateful for the rain… it reminds me of home 🙂 Hope you find some sunshine today too, Em!

  • I for SURE believe in the power of prayer and it’s such a wonderful thing to not only receive, but give to other whether they too believe in it’s power. So glad you’re out of that cold and snowy weather! <3

    • Exactly! I could not agree with you more, Kelly. Hope you are having a great week!
