The One Thing

The One Thing: Adventure

June 23, 2015

We live in such a beautiful world it’s really hard to pick just one thing that inspires me. I thought long and hard about what I would write as the one thing that makes me me. After careful thought, I have decided that it is my love of adventure.
I didn’t always used to be this way, my friends. You see, I’m a type-A to a T. I make to-do lists and have quarterly and yearly goals for myself, and am a little – how do you say – intense. When I accepted a teaching job across the world one day after graduation college, I didn’t know that my life would change so much.
“One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure.”
– William Feather
Since I moved abroad this past year to Shanghai, China to teach, I’ve learned a LOT about myself. I’ve learned that traveling makes me feel full and complete and happy. I’ve learned that I love meeting new people and I learned that I really, really like being outside my comfort zone. I’ve traveled so much this past year, and for that I’m forever grateful. But sweet friends, to live a life of adventure, you don’t need to live in China and be 22 with too much time on your hands (let’s be honest here…).

Anyone can live a life of adventure.
Choosing adventure means mixing things up every now and then. Instead of staying in tonight, I’m going to a film festival screening to shake things up! Choosing adventure means ordering something different on the menu instead of my normal glass of red wine + bread #givemethecarbs. Choosing adventure means living my life on purpose and intentionally, while leaving room for adventure, challenges, opportunity, and growth. You don’t have to go skydiving to experience adventure in your daily life (though that was really fun…), but changing my mindset has made all the difference in my life. And that, my friends, is the one thing that inspires me.
What inspires you?
