twelve months of bliss

Twelve Months of Bliss, Oct: In the Heart of the Beholder

October 7, 2015

Did any of you notice this month’s new challenge for Twelve Months of Bliss?? I think it’s going to be really fun and definitely one we can do together as we follow each other’s moments. In case you missed it on the Twelve Months of Bliss page, here’s a recap:

OCTOBER 2015: Bliss, In the Heart of the Beholder

“For every beauty, there is an eye somewhere to see it…” – Ivan Panin

Challenge: Throughout this month, grab your camera and take pictures of things and/or moments that bring you bliss. The challenge to this, you ask? You cannot delete and retake the picture. (Filters are okay, as I see filters as a way of being creative.) At the end of the month, collect all of your photos & make either a physical photo collage (yes, people still make photo albums – crazy, I know!) or make an electronic photo collage (perfect for linking up with the Twelve Months of Bliss linkup!)

How often: As often as you would like! Just keep your camera handy… you never know. DO keep track of the pictures though and the dates in which the moments were captured.

What you will need: A camera – this can be a professional camera, your phone, or you can even go buy a cheap disposable camera – this would definitely help keep you from deleting and retaking πŸ˜‰

Why?: No deleting and retaking?! What if it’s blurry?! I know, in today’s day and age this seems near impossible to steer clear from a photo redo but, hence the challenge. Each photo you take is one snap of whatever it is that you see as bliss in your day. When you notice, recognize, see bliss in your life – you see it in the moment. You don’t see it and then think about it and change it in your mind – it’s beautiful to you the moment it registers in your head and heart and it’s in that moment of freedom to just see the true beauty that makes you happy. There is still beauty in blurry pictures, blurry moments.

Instagram: Since we’re dealing with pictures this month, feel free to share your photos throughout the month on Instagram and make sure to use the hashtag #12MofBliss so we can all follow along.

[For those of you keeping a 12MofBliss journal:Β Keep track of the pictures and the dates in which the moments were captured in your journal. Next to the date of each photo, write a quick recap of what was happening, how you were feeling, and why this one thing or moment brought bliss to your heart. Questions: Have you always noticed the beauty in these things? Was it a challenge to not retake a photo? Was bliss found in the simple things or the big things?]

October’s Linkup: This month’s linkup will take place at Ember Grey on Wednesday, October 28. This linkup will serve as a place for all of us to share our thoughts and reflections (and photos!) on this particular challenge.

There are SO many beautiful things happening to our surroundings right now, especially if you live in a place where the leaves change their colors. And that’s just for starters. So there you go- where does your bliss come from? What does it look like? I can’t wait to see all of your moments captured this month – blurry snapshots and all πŸ™‚

  • Oh boy, this one is a challenge for the non-picture taker. I mean, I take them but half the time they will be blurry, unfocused and the quality will not be the best. I use my Ipad camera most of the time. I know, I know, this is what you are going for – problem is, I’m a perfectionist and this one quality will eat me alive doing this. But, I’m committed to this so pictures you will get. The good, the bad and the ugly!

    • Michelle, you will do well. I know that when my aunt uses her iPad her pics always seem blurry also – think it’s simply the size of the iPad that kind of makes it harder to hold and focus with πŸ™‚

    • The first year I did this, Michelle, there was another woman who was a non-picture taker too. She ended up buying a 2 cheap disposable cameras from Walgreens – one for her and one for her grandson and then the two of them took pictures together that month. It was the cutest thing and she said it was really cool to see what he saw as bliss and to do that together πŸ™‚

  • I am so excited for this challenge. I am a camera junkie and I already started. I’m going to make another Shutterfly book to keep my memories πŸ˜‰
    Love it

    • yay!! πŸ™‚ I’m excited about this one too. Can’t wait to see your book!

  • Oooo fun!! I’m the queen for blurry, uncoordinating pictures πŸ™‚

  • I love this idea! It makes me (if I had the money) want to get a polaroid because a. I couldn’t retake them (this could be good for the perfectionist thing right now and b. the beauty of polaroids are the flaws!)

    • Oh TOTALLY. Same. Disposable cameras are fun too though. Remember what it was like to wait for your film to be developed?? #ancient

  • Oh man, I love this idea! I’m a little late to the 12 months of bliss game, but I’m all over it this month!

  • Oh, well this month should be easy for me. πŸ˜‰
