Twelve Months of Bliss – October Recap & Linkup

October 28, 2015

the road to bliss EG

Well, whoa. I swear it’s not until I go to write these Twelve Months of Bliss recaps that I realize just how fast each month flies by. Where did October go?!

I was SO excited about this month’s challenge – partly because I love to take pictures, but also because it’s been a goal of mine to actually print more pictures out (I love having photo albums around the house). I’m kind of embarrassed to admit that 1.) I didn’t take as many pictures as I thought I would and 2.) I never did print any of the photos I did take. Either way, I still had fun this month and each time I tagged #12MofBliss on one of my Instagram photos, it made me realize just how many good things I have in my day-to-day. I still have grand plans of printing out more photos for photo albums – perhaps a winter DIY?

I was really drawn to October’s quote and thought about it throughout the month:

“For every beauty, there is an eye somewhere to see it.” -Ivan Panin.

I think I would add a bit more to Mr. Panin’s quote though and complete it with: “and a heart somewhere to feel it.” Don’t you think beauty is not only seen but also felt? I sure do. I think most of the time when I take photos it’s because I’m trying to capture a feeling felt in that moment. Wispy clouds in a fall sky are beautiful – something that is seen with the eye but my gosh – the feeling I felt when I walked outside and caught sight of that? There was a creativity deep inside of me that begged to be heard, and so I stood there for a few minutes to admire the beauty with my eyes but then walked right back inside to my computer to write all of the things my heart wanted to say in that moment.

“Those who look for beauty, find it.” -Unknown

There is SO MUCH TRUTH to that statement and I think that’s one of the biggest things I will be taking away from October’s challenge. Life is often times the way we choose look at things. If we focus on the rainy days, more than we do the sunshine that always follows, our days will always be remembered as rainy ones. If we focus more so on the things going on in our life that are less than pleasant, we’re bound to miss the moments in-between that hold so much beauty, so much joy. And those in-between moments are found in the little things like a warm cup of coffee or a spouse who folds the laundry on a Tuesday night “just because,” and they are found in the big things like reaching big goals or making new relationships/friendships… and how about new life? That’s a pretty big in-your-face moment of beauty 🙂 The little and big moments of beauty are what get us through the moments of gray, and that’s the key. We must look for the beauty and choose to focus on it, each and every day.

Something else I loved about this month’s challenge was being invited to see what other people’s bliss might look like. When you have a moment, check out all of the pictures that were tagged in the #12MofBliss Instagram – so many moments of bliss! And what a special thing, to see beauty through the eyes of another human being. I really love going through these months with all of you 🙂

  • Thanks for stopping by, Emily!! 🙂

  • That is definitely why I take pictures a lot of times – trying to hold onto a feeling of the moment! And *sometimes* when I look back at old photos I can just feel the moment…those are the best!

  • I had a hard time remembering to tag everything but I definitely did more of this in October! 🙂
