Week Twenty.

Tuesday was “one of those days” for me. It began with me waking up definitely on the wrong side of the bed (I hate it when that happens!) All morning I was in a funk – and the more I focused on the fact that I couldn’t shake it, the more frustrated I got. It was so bad that not even Michael Bolton could fix it. (I told you… BAD.) I had a million things to do that day and tried to get my 394857364 posts done, mentally feeling like I was going a million miles per hour yet I continued to stare at blank page after blank page. I sat in front of my computer literally feeling like I was drowning in my to-do list. Christian knew I was struggling so, being the awesome human of a being that he is, he kidnapped me and drove me to Nashville’s beautiful Percy Warner Park
Let me tell you something. Nature will take all of your stress and TOTALLY KICK ITS ASS. I don’t know if we spent 20 minutes or 2 hours in those woods walking those trails, but as we rounded one of the bends, I felt the cool breeze rush over my face and I put my hands to the sky and yelled at the top of my lungs, “STRESS IS BULL! TAKE IT!” and just like that, the sky ate it up and I felt strong again. (Only to turn around and realize Christian had documented my moment of crazy.) 
There were a few times during our walk where Christian mentioned how fast we were walking. I think his exact words were, “Wow, babe. We’re um… bookin’ it today.” You betcha, babe. YOU BETCHA. 
I’m so grateful to have this guy the way I do… he always knows just when I need to be whisked away to the trees. (And then he took me to Starbucks so I could try the new 500 calorie S’mores Frappuccino.) (It happens.)

    After our talk yesterday the kids and I took a walk around the nature trail by the library. JUST what we needed. Seriously amazing.

  • Sometimes just walking a way and getting a change of scenery will do wonders for our minds and stress level. And btw, when I go walking or on a hike I never look as great as you do. Beautiful!

  • I tell ya, he's a keeper! 😉 Nature has such a wonderful way of clearing my head. I'm not sure if it's the quiet, the rustling leaves, the smell of the dirt…all of it together no doubt. But it always calms my thoughts – and I end up thanking the Lord for all of the beauty He created just for us. I"m so glad you got out and cleared your mind!

  • Sometimes you really do just have to step away from all of the work and to-do lists so you can refresh and try again later!

  • And of course you look gorgeous while hiking! Claire had a s'more frap earlier this week (creme based, no caffeine), and she was like, "yum Mommy….this is the best one!" with super big eyes and a huge old smile. Haha…holy ridiculous amounts of sugar!

  • Aw this post warmed my heart, haha. I hate those days when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed :/ You can be the most positive, driven person ever and they still happen from time to time. But you are so right about the power of nature! It pays to get outside and breathe that fresh air every so often (or as often as you can!)
